The final Monday Night Football game of the season will take place on Saturday when the Falcons head into Detroit with a chance to clinch the top spot in the NFC. Detroit is reeling after six straight losses, which puts them in a far different situation than last year when they were fighting for a playoff spot. Atlanta Falcons The Falcons lost only their second game of the season two weeks ago to the Panthers, but it has not affected their chances at home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They are currently the top seed in the NFC, and a win would give them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, along with the top overall seed in the NFC. The loss against the Panthers two weeks ago could have easily slowed down the Falcons, but they responded with a dominant 34-0 win over the Giants last week. It was a rematch from last year’s playoffs, when the Giants won 24-2. Atlanta’s defense held Eli Manning to 161 yards passing and no touchdowns. They forced two interceptions, and had three turnovers overall. This is not a good sign for the Lions, who only managed to score ten points against the Cardinals last week. The win gave the Cardinals their first win in their last ten games. Detroit Lions As mentioned, the Lions are currently on a six-game losing streak. All of these losses were in competitive games until last week, when they were embarrassed by the lowly Cardinals. Last week’s loss was very ugly, considering the Cardinals managed to score 38 points while only having 196 yards of offense. They were helped by two interception returns for touchdowns, along with three rushing touchdowns from Beanie Wells. Unfortunately for the Lions it is looking like they will end up losing their last two games of the season. The Falcons have only lost twice all year and will not slip up at a time when they can lock up the top seed in the NFC. The Lions then play the Bears in the final game of the season, who will likely be fighting for a wild card spot. Falcons-Lions Prediction The Falcons have the best record in the NFC and will prove why when they easily defeat the Lions in Detroit. They will lock up the NFC’s top seed and give their fans an early Christmas present.
