ATLANTA,GA- Jason Snelling was arrested in Winder,GA at 4:20 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana along with various traffic related charges according to the Barrow County News. At 3:35 a WPD officer noticed a black Lincoln was failing to maintain its lane and initiated a traffic stop. During the routine stop, the officer then noticed the strong odor of marijuana. Snelling has 36 carries for 132 yards and one touchdown as well as 19 catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns. (Photo Credit: Associated Press) The officer stated in his report, ““I asked Mr. Snelling if there was any other marijuana in the vehicle, and he told me that there was a grinder in the center console of the vehicle and that it had a little bit of marijuana left in it.” During the search of his vehicle another officer noticed that the football player seemed to be repeatedly swallowing during their conversation. While the officer claims there was evidence that Snelling had indeed ingested the remaining marijuana,Snelling himself denied the allegations that he had done so. Finally at 4:20 he was detained and transported to the Barrow County Detention Center. He was charged with possession of marijuana, less than one ounce, possession of drug related materials, expired or no driver’s license, failure to maintain lane, failure to maintain insurance, improper use of dealer license plate and no registration. The Atlanta Falcons said in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution “We are aware of the situation concerning Jason Snelling and are in the process of gathering additional information, because this is an on-going legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”Jason Snelling in a relatively good mood after being arrested. The processing and detaining of thousands of citizens across the United States for simple possession of a recreational drug is a purely ludicrous sentiment that we are still desperately clinging onto. Marijuana is far less dangerous than the chemically altered tobacco that people smoke on a daily basis. Or the thousands that die each year from drinking related instances such as drunk drivers or alcohol poisoning. Yet in spite of all the research supporting the use of the original and natural form of cannabis, lawmakers and a large portion of our society feel the topic is too taboo to even discuss within the household. Not to mention the billions of dollars actual violent criminals make from this drug every year. Unfortunately for the prudes, the day when the people will demand a review of this case is coming very soon I think. In an era of equal rights movements and open-mindedness athletes and normal citizens alike won’t have to do time unless they commit an actual crime.
