According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, wide receiver Austin Collie has looked promising so far in 49ers camp.
The early signs have been good. Collie is picking up the offense quickly, made two big catches against Denver and seems focused and eager to resume his career. The risk, of course, is his propensity for injuries, especially concussions. Collie still hasn’t gone full bore due to last year’s knee injury. Still, all signs are pointing in the right direction for him.
We know Collie can play in the NFL. The question is whether Collie can play an entire season without suffering a concussion.

A.J. Jenkins was the Niners' first-round selection just 18 months ago, and even though the team is desperate for receivers at the moment, his roster spot is reportedly still in jeopardy.
Previously on day 13 of San Francisco 49ers training camp, Colin Kaepernick put on an offensive show. On day 14, the 49ers’ defense dominated the practice field. Kaepernick was sacked five times, rookie cornerback Marcus Cooper intercepted Kaepernick on a pass intended for Kyle Williams, and rookie cornerback Darryl Morris defended two Kaepernick passes to A.J. Jenkins...
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that rookie tight end Vance McDonald will be out for the next seven to ten days with an undisclosed injury.
This means McDonald will miss this week’s preseason game and should be back for their week three match up against the Vikings.
So far during camp, McDonald has struggled with pass blocking...
While the 49ers have indicated that the jury is still out on whether or not cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha can still play at a high level, he’s more confident now then he was with the Eagles.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Asomugha admitted that the past two years in Philly shook his confidence.
He acknowledged that the two seasons in Philadelphia shook his confidence.
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs has been suspended for Week 1 against Green Bay for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.
The 49ers, in announcing the penalty Wednesday jointly with the NFL, say Dobbs will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 9, a day after the reigning NFC champion Niners' season opener at home against the...
The San Francisco 49ers didn’t give DL Glenn Dorsey any assurances on his role when they signed him to a two-year, $6 million deal in March. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft for the Kansas City Chiefs, but things didn’t work out there.

Colin Kaepernick took the NFL by storm last season after taking over for Alex Smith, and doesn’t appear to be easing up anytime sooner.
Kaepernick brings the dynamic of speed, strength, a strong-arm, and excitement to the quarterback position. Kaepernick told the Sporting News that his most important dynamic, “his mental approach to the game, is underestimated.”
Nnamdi Asomugha is trying to find himself again as a football player.
Asomugha signed with the Eagles during the 2011 off-season, and was a consensus top two cornerback in the game, and a rich man after getting a $60 million deal in exchange.
Fast forward two years, and Asomugha is in San Francisco fighting for his football life. Asomugha is no longer considered the top corner...
Whenever Forbes another list about the most valuable sports franchises it’s like whatever. We get to see how the rich got richer. We yell at our computer screens to see the Cowboys once again listed at the very top. None of it matters on the actual playing field.
That said, hey, everybody, the 49ers are the 10th most valuable team in the NFL!
Forbes came out with its latest NFL...
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Over all those years and thousands of practice snaps, the stingy San Francisco defense never got to put a hit on Alex Smith.
And this is a group known for its vicious blows, from sack man Aldon Smith at linebacker to pounding safety Donte Whitner.
So, no surprise Smith's former teammates on the opposite side of the ball will be salivating to finally...
The Colin Kaepernick-Vernon Davis connection continues to dazzle. They hooked up on a pretty 40-yard touchdown pass down the middle. Kaepernick who is sometimes criticized for his lack of touch dropped a beautiful pass into Davis between Carlos Rogers and Craig Dahl on another play. Rookie Vance McDonald did not practice after hardly participating on Saturday however Garrett Celek...
