The Baltimore Ravens’ secondary has been a point of interest during this offseason. One of the team’s biggest problems on defense in 2013 was the secondary. Last season, the Ravens relied on second-year Raven James Ihedigbo and rookie Matt Elam at the safety position. Ihedigbo signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions last month, so the Ravens were left with Elam as their go-to safety. While the team has recently signed Darian Stewart to a one-year contract, the short-term deal could suggest that the team doesn’t plan on keeping him after this season. Adding a second young safety to play alongside Elam could solidify the Ravens’ future in the position. Here’s a list of a few safeties the Ravens should consider drafting in 2014. Calvin Pryor, Louisville Calvin Pryor is an explosive safety that plays with confidence. Putting a confident player on the field with another young player would help the tandem excel right off the bat. Pryor is also known for thinking on his feet. He plays immediately off the snap and is able to read opposing offenses very quickly. But most of all, Pryor can really lay out a hit. He is one of the strongest tacklers projected in the first round of the draft. He knows when to hit and how to be physical in the backfield. Jimmie Ward, Northern Illinois Jimmie Ward is not likely to go in the first round of the draft, but he is still worth a look from the Ravens. Ward is an aggressive safety that would complement Elam out on the field. He is quick and able to stop the run game immediately. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, The University of Alabama This one might be a long-shot, but if Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is still available by the 17th pick, the Ravens should seriously consider drafting the safety from the University of Alabama. Clinton-Dix is one of the best safeties in the 2014 Draft. He is quick to read the offense and is able to bring down the run game in an instant. He is also one of the few players that plays a professional-style of defense, making his draft stock even higher.
