This isn’t new if you’re reading my blog with any sort of regularity, but New York Giants stud defensive tackle Barry Cofield does not believe the team can afford the type of contract he is expecting.
He will listen to offers from the Giants, but is not expecting much.
“Yeah, if they make a competitive offer, sure [’d listen],” Cofield told Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star Ledger. “But based on the things I’ve been hearing, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. Hopefully, I’ll get fair-market value that other quality starters get. From what I’m hearing, I don’t think the Giants can pay that amount.”
The odds are stacked against a return to the Giants. Not only are the Giants $6.1 million over the new salary cap of $120 million, but they have expressed a clear desire to resign Ahmad Bradshaw, Kevin Boss, Steve Smith, and Mathias Kiwanuka.
