Bears safety Chris Conte was fined $21,000 for contact to the head of a defenseless receiver during Sunday's 23-22 win over the Panthers.
Although the replay showed Conte's action was by no means intentional, the official flagged him for a personal foul for striking Panthers receiver Brandon LaFell.
Conte said he's in the process of appealing the fine. After the game, he expressed his displeasure with the call.
"It wasn't a penalty, but I guess they called it a penalty,'' Conte said. I didn't do anything. He's diving into me. I don't know what you want me to do.'' Source: Chicago Tribune Attached Thumbnails

The Chicago Bears placed wide receiver Johnny Knox on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list during training camp in hopes he may be ready to play at some point this season.
Unfortunately for Knox, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Knox lost 30 pounds off his 6-0, 185-pound frame after surgery and has slowly started gaining it back. Although he's gained a lot of...
At first, Bears FS Chris Conte thought it was one of his teammates playing a joke on him when he received a notice that he was being fined $21,000 for a blow to the head of a defenseless receiver. Conte was called for a penalty last week after hitting Carolina Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell in the head.
But Conte didnt look like he was attempting to make a knockout shot...
TELLING IT LIKE IT IS
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's sophomore season has been a struggle and he admitted as much during an interview, calling the experience "humbling."
Brandon LaFell took a big hit against the Steelers and, according to Panther's head coach Ron Rivera, passed a concussion test on the sideline. If indeed he did pass the sideline testing then it was insufficient because he has been sidelined now, probably for Week 9 at least, with a concussion. If testing wasn't administered this could become a real issue for the Panthers.
The season for the Carolina Panthers has been a complete disappointing thus far. Cam Newton seems to have regressed, the team has only won 1 game, and now it seems they might be trying to clean house after general manager Marty Hurney has already been fired.
Running back DeAngelo Williams has had to deal with trade rumors, and now Steve Smith’s name has popped up in them as...
Earlier in the week there was a report that teams have been calling the Carolina Panthers to inquire about the possibility of trading for wide receiver Steve Smith. They reportedly turned everyone away.
Smith told the media on Wednesday that he plans on finishing his career in Carolina, unless he gets cut.
Trading Smith wouldn’t be a good idea. Quarterback Cam Newton needs...
When the Chicago Bears (6-1) and Tennessee Titans (3-5) meet in Nashville on Sunday this will seemingly be a battle of two teams headed in opposite directions. The Bears are currently on a five-game winning streak, where as the Titans are coming off a tough luck loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8.The last time these two teams met the Titans walked away with a 21-14 despite...
The 6-1 Chicago Bears returned to the practice field Wednesday in preparation for their trip Sunday down to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans (3-5). Tight end Matt Spaeth was limited in workouts with a ankle injury, but Bears head coach Lovie Smith doesn’t expect it to linger and looks for a quick return to practice. “Again, it is limited,” [...]
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Evan Silva, the Carolina Panthers are still taking calls on possibly trading running back DeAngelo Williams and he could end up being traded.
“Could be on the move. Panthers continue to listen to phone calls. There is interest from other teams,” said Schefter.
With Williams being 29 years-old, I wouldn’t bother trading for him with all...
The Chicago Bears travel to Tennessee to take on the (3-5) Titans on Sunday. You may being saying to yourself that this should be another easy win for the Bears this Sunday.
Nothing is easy in this league.
The Titans have been showing signs of life over the past couple of weeks. Specifically running back Chris Johnson.
He has been the NFL's leading rusher over the past five...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By ANDREW SELIGMAN AP Sports Writer The Chicago Bears had some question marks in their secondary when the season started. It turns out they had some answers, too.
With the defensive line applying the pressure up front and the guys in the backfield letting little get past them, the Bears lead the NFC North at 6-1.
They keep coming...
RG3 has been a very good quarterback in his early career, but is it beginning to get to his head? Today he made a comment and I don’t know if I was suppose to take it as a shot at Cam Newton or it just came out bad. Griffin said: “I’d rather be compared to an Aaron Rodgers or a guy like that,” Griffin said Wednesday, “someone who has won Super Bowls.”
To me that sounds...
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith's name came up in trade talks according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports yesterday.
Smith, who requested a trade following the Panthers' 2-14 season two years ago. After the Panthers 23-22 loss to Chicago, Smith said, "Its getting old. There is a tradition growing here, and Im not sure which way this tradition is going....
