Bears general manager Phil Emery is expected to meet with New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Thursday, according to a league source.
Carmichael was named offensive coordinator of the Saints in 2009, replacing Doug Marrone who left to become the head coach at Syracuse. Saints head coach Sean Payton calls offensive plays. But Payton was suspended for the 2012 season, and Carmichael handled that duty.
The Saints offense ranked 2nd in the NFL, No. 1 through the air.

The New Orleans Saints had one of the worst defenses in the NFL this season, which of course reflects poorly on defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. It was a hectic year in New Orleans between the bounty scandal and the suspension of head coach Sean Payton, so it’s tough to judge anyone based on the past 10 months.
