GREEN BAY, Wis. After losing four consecutive games, Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith has decided to switch quarterbacks. Smith benched Caleb Hanie on Wednesday in favor of Josh McCown. "We felt like we needed a change," Smith said in a teleconference with Packers media, "someone to give us a little bit of a spark. It's time for us to make a move, so we went with him." Chicago started the season with Jay Cutler at quarterback. Since he broke his right thumb in Week 11, the Bears have been going with Hanie. With Cutler, Chicago was 7-3 and in good position to make the playoffs. Now the Bears are 7-7 and would need to finish the season with back-to-back victories to have a chance for a wild-card spot. When asked what went wrong with Hanie at quarterback, Smith simply replied, "Don't know." In Hanie's four starts, he threw three touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 50 percent of his passes. "I don't have a whole lot of time to figure out (what went wrong with Hanie)," Smith said. "We've moved on now. We're really excited about Josh. No more than that." Follow Paul Imig on Twitter
