Patriots-coach-belichick
Patriots Coach Bill Belichick is zoned in on finding a victory this Sunday - intent on beating Saints head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who worked under Belichick from 2000-2003 as a linebackers coach for the Pats, then went to Oakland as the Raiders defensive coordinator. Ryan's Black and Gold defense in New Orleans is producing better results than most fans hoped for in his first season, and Belichick says he's happy for Ryan's success. "Just watching his defenses play, they're always very well prepared. They're a good situational team. They do things weekly that attack the specific opponent that they're playing, keep you off balance and present problems that hit at your weaknesses," Belichick said. "Rob is a smart guy that really is a very dedicated coach. He works hard at football, studies football, and has a good understanding of what other people are doing. He installs a solid confidence within his players bec...

Gronk, Pats in a tight spot

In the 2010 NFL Draft the New England Patriots selected Rob Gronkowski in the 2nd round and Aaron Hernandez in the 4th.  For the foreseeable future, it looked as if the Patriots stole two potential Hall of Famers and solidified their offense for the rest of Tom Brady’s career.  Brady’s QB rating with the two TE’s from 2010-2012 was about 75. This year minus, the two offensive...

Bill Belichick Says Patriots ‘Have Confidence’ in Team’s Medical Staff When Asked About Rob Gronkowski’s Recovery

FOXBORO, Mass. — If the Patriots are concerned about the surgery the team’s doctor, Dr. Thomas Gill, performed on Rob Gronkowski, Bill Belichick is not leading on. Belichick praised the medical staff in his morning press conference on Friday when asked about a recent report that said the Patriots have “serious concerns” about the recovery of Gronkowski’s forearm. ...

Tommy Kelly, Leon Washington Looking Unlikely for Patriots-Saints After Both Players Miss Three Straight Days of Practice

FOXBORO, Mass. — It’s looking doubtful that Tommy Kelly and Leon Washington play on Sunday against the Saints. Both players were missing from practice all three days this week. Kelly hurt his knee during Sunday’s game against the Bengals. Washington injured his ankle during the opening kickoff in Cincinnati. Chris Jones, Joe Vellano and Andre Neblett will fill in for...

Bill Belichick stands by Patriots medical staff

Ex-Medical Director of the Red Sox and current Patriots team doctor, Thomas Gill. (Wendy Maeda/Globe Staff) The Patriots medical staff has been called into question a little bit recently, namely the team doctor, Thomas Gill. A report from WEEI's Mike Petraglia last night indicated that there was "serious concern" about the surgery performed. Essentially, both the...

Report: “Serious concern” over the integrity of the bone in Rob Gronkowski forearm

According to WEEI in Boston,  the Patriots expected tight end Rob Gronkowski to be ready to play by week three of this season. The reason we’re all still waiting for Gronk to play is because his family is very concerned with the surgery that Patriots team doctor Tom Gill performed on Gronkowski’s forearm, While it is common practice for team doctors to perform on their own athletes...

Brandon Spikes’, Alfonzo Dennard’s Dominant Performances Revealed in Patriots-Bengals Film Review

If everything goes as expected in the next 12 weeks, the Patriots and their fans should be able to look back at New England’s Week 5 performance and have a laugh — or at least a slight smirk. The Patriots’ offense had a rough showing against the impressive Bengals defense. And while the majority of the Patriots’ defense looked good, there were some rough spots, especially...

Report: Serious concerns over Gronkowski's forearm surgery

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was supposed to make his 2013 debut in Week 3. But after offseason surgery on his arm and back he still remains sidelined as New England's offense sputters. According to WEEI's Mike Petraglia Gronkowski's arm injury which he initially suffered in November 2012 might have healed properly without surgery. "But the team and Gronkowski...

Rob Ninkovich works way to reach goals

Rob Ninkovich was savvy enough to recognize he wasn’t going to make the Saints roster in 2009 as a second-string long snapper. Ninkovich did have enough conviction in his work ethic to believe he could make a roster when presented with the right opportunity. That chance obviously came with the Patriots almost immediately after he was cut by the Saints. Now Ninkovich can give...

Patriots Cannot Acquire Help at Wide Receiver, Defensive Line Easily, As Pieces Are Not Readily Available (Mailbag)

FOXBORO, Mass. — There’s a reason the NFL trade deadline is nothing like the MLB’s or even NBA’s. In those sports, it’s far easier to plug in a player and expect him to play at a high level nearly immediately. In the NFL, pieces can only be acquired at certain positions. And since the deadline is so early (Oct. 29), most teams may be hesitant to give up key pieces since...

McDaniels prefers 50-50 run-pass ratio for Pats

BY NICK ST. DENISThe New England Patriots ran the ball relatively well in a 13-6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, averaging 4.6 yards per rush. For three and a half quarters, they were never down by more than three points. Still, circumstances dictated New England go to the air attack, as quarterback Tom Brady dropped back to pass 42 times and handed off the ball on just 18...

3 Problems a Gronk Return Won't Fix

1: Rookie Mistakes The growing pains of Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson have been well documented. The two rookie receivers have made some plays so far this season, but also driven Tom Brady b-a-n-a-n-a-s at times with drops and misreads. Gronk's return will help in the sense that Brady will be less reliant on these unreliable (for now) players, but it won't make Thompkins...

Saints Nation: Did the Saints Really Even Switch to a 3-4?

The hire of Rob Ryan through 5 weeks seems like a huge overwhelming success. The Saints have yet to give up 20 or more points in five straight games and they are doing that with mostly the same players they had last year (add John Jenkins, Kenny Vaccaro and Keenan Lewis). The Saints are currently 11th overall in defense, plenty good enough when you consider the other side of the...

Brady vs. Ryan - and no it's not the Jets again

Rob Ryan back in his days with Dallas. Image from espn.go.com Whenever the Patriots are around, there always seems to be a Ryan that follows. Whether it is the Jets or Saint's, the tempo always is picked up when the teams come together. One of the Ryan's, the coach of the New York Jets Rex Ryan, usually is no problem for the Patriots offense and defense. But the Saint'...
