It was almost a staple in Pittsburgh. Being down in the fourth quarter pushed the Steelers offense into overdrive, with Big Ben manufacturing late rallies to win close games. This season, not so much, and QB Ben Roethlisberger can’t quite put his finger on it. He’s 2 for 7 in 8 games that were decided by 3 points. "In the past, I've prided myself and our team in the fourth-quarter comebacks," Roethlisberger told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We've always said you don't want to have them because then you're usually not doing so well early on in the games. But we've always been good at it. This year just wasn't. I don't think there's a rhyme or reason why." It’s not to say that they haven’t won close games late, just a drop in the total this year. He did lead two fourth quarter drives against Philadelphia (16-14) and a 24-20 win against the Giants. Ben thinks it’s just an off year compounded by injuries, and there’s no need to panic. "I don't think there's any reason to go panic. I've been pretty good for eight years doing it. I had one not-so-good year at it. I felt like I played pretty good football, though, other than those situations." var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
