It's just common sense that the Cincinnati Bengals will likely release a cornerback or two from now until final cuts a week before the 2012 regular season launches. Will it be based on training camp and preseason production, or will there be a significant weight against players that earn the most? Let's take a look at scheduled salaries Bengals cornerbacks are expected to earn, ranking them through their base salary in 2012.

Cornerback Base Salary Bonuses Nate Clements $4.3 Million $200,000 Reporting Bonus Jason Allen $4.1 Million*   Leon Hall $1.6 Million $5 Million Roster Bonus (already paid) Terence Newman $825,000   Adam Jones $700,000 $200,000 Bonus Brandon Ghee $540,000   Dre Kirkpatrick $390,000 $4.9 Million Signing Bonus Shaun Prater $390,000 $185,000 Signing Bonus * Signed a two-year $8.2 million deal

Generally the Bengals keep ten defensive backs, sometimes split evenly five-five, other times weighted towards cornerbacks or safeties. There's always a chance that the team keeps an eleventh and there's always the chance Cincinnati splits the defensive backs with six cornerbacks and four safeties. Who knows. Good problem to have regardless.

As pointed out on Wednesday, someone will be on the chopping block.

Speaking of cornerbacks, our own Nick Cargo previews the position heading into this year's training camp. And speaking of previews, Jason Garrison took on the team's linebackers.
