Bengals safety Taylor Mays was fined $21,000 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Ravens tight end Ed Dickson, according to a league spokesman.
Dickson was upended Monday night by Mays, who launched himself into the air during the first half of the Ravens' 44-13 victory over the Bengals.
Dickson said afterward he didn't think Mays was trying to injure him, but predicted he would be fined.
Meanwhile, Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb wasn't fined by the NFL for his hit on Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Although he was penalized with a personal foul, Webb led with his shoulder.

Thomas Howard out, Vontaze Burfict in
Wow, it is just like the GridIron Challenge all over again. For those of you that didn’t know, the challenge was where I got to play flag football with the Bengals. Our QB was supposed to be Thomas Howard and for unknown reasons he was replaced with Vontaze Burfict.
Fast forward to week two of the season and because of an ACL tear suffered by Thomas Howard, Burfict will once again...
5 reasons the Ravens could lose in Week 2
Yes, the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco looked amazing last Monday Night against a division rival and yes the offense probably played the best game you’ve ever seen them play. The defense, while only giving up 13 points did bend a bit to the inside running game. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles struggled to beat a perennially rebuilding Browns team.
So, why am I telling you...
Bengals LB Howard out for season; Muckelroy signs
The Bengals placed linebacker Thomas Howard on the reserve/injured list Friday, after suffering a season-ending knee injury in practice this week.
Howard, a seven-year veteran from UTEP, was Cincinnati's tackling leader last season with 120 stops, and started in the Bengals' Week 1 loss to the Ravens on Monday night. He had four tackles, including a sack, and a pass defensed...
Bengals suffer another injury, lose Thomas Howard for season
Every team has injuries, but the Bengals are one of those teams that may have more than anyone. After putting two starters on the offensive line on IR before the season, Travelle Wharton and Kyle Cook (though the latter can be reactivated later this season), the Bengals were without 4 key contributors with injury last week as Carlos Dunlap, Jason Allen, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Bernard...
Report: Ravens, Joe Flacco “shelve” contract talks
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco have now put their contract talks on hold until the offseason.
Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco and the Ravens were close to finalizing a long-term contract extension the first week of August before talks were tabled, according to league sources.
But they were not just tabled; they essentially were...
Juan Eye On: Joe Flacco
They took my handcuffs off Juan…
Joe Flacco tore it up last Monday night. He threw the ball down the field with the greatest of ease. The Ravens have been protecting Flacco for too long and now they have unleashed him. Haven’t we seen this before from Cam Cameron?
I love Flacco’s talent and his weapons. I don’t trust that Cameron will continue to let him run the...
Prediction Saturday: Ravens don’t suffer a letdown this time
This game is a tough one to pick this early in the season. It’s not real clear how either team, the Ravens or Eagles, will be this season.
Baltimore looked dominant Monday night and the Eagles won their game against the Browns, but turned the ball over five times.
For this week, I’m rolling with the home team.
Joe Flacco showed pinpoint accuracy in the Ravens’ 44-13 victory...
Bengals place linebacker Thomas Howard on IR with ACL tear
We never wish injuries on anyone in the NFL, but it is a part of the game and as Browns fans know all too well, it changes the action each and every Sunday. That disclaimer in mind, Thomas Howard’s injury is a big blow to the Bengals defense ahead of the matchup this weekend with the Browns. The Bengals re-signed Roddrick Muckelroy, who was one of the team’s final cuts leading...

Rey Maualuga, Trent Richardson jawing back and forth
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga isn’t very impressed with Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson and he’s not afraid to let everyone know.
“He can run you over and you can miss a tackle, at the same time, from what we’ve seen he didn’t do nothing spectacular,” Maualuga told CBSSports.com, via The Plain Dealer. “From running screens, missing passes, trying...
Eagles running back LeSean McCoy sees success against Ravens stingy defense
Some are previewing Sunday’s Ravens vs. Eagles matchup as an early knockout for the Ravens. However, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy does not see it that way.
As a matter of fact, he feels that he will be the exception to the rule that states that you can’t run against the Ravens stout defense.

Contract Talks Between Ravens, QB Joe Flacco Shelved
Even though Joe Flacco looks like he is on his way to earning a big payday, the Ravens quarterback probably won't get it anytime soon.
Talks on a long-term deal between the Ravens and Flacco have been shelved after a deal was close to being finalized in early August, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
This latest development has no impact on Flacco's future...
