Bengals Post:
Cincinnati Bengals kicker Mike Nugent was honored with AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance in the team’s 15-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. Nugent was the lone scorer for the Bengals, connecting on all five of his field goal attempts from 36, 30, 46, 38, and 25 yards.
The Bengals chose Nugent as their kicker over Dave Rayner after an intense battle during training camp and the preseason. Despite dealing with injuries at the beginning of camp, Nugent gained a slight edge over Rayner due to his ability to kick from long distance. This will be the former Ohio State standout’s sixth season (fourth team) in the NFL after the New York Jets selected him in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
