Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge on Friday. The plea was filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court by his attorney. An employee of a bar in Cincinnati has accused the third-year veteran of punching him in the face during an altercation on Feb. 5. Maualuga has previously pleaded guilty to drunken driving in January 2010. As a repeat offender, he could be suspended by the NFL for part of next season. Maualuga collected 88 tackles and one interception last season. He has 226 career tackles, two sacks and three interceptions during his career.

Bengals hire Hue Jackson

According to the official Twitter feed of the Cincinnati Bengals, former Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson Ha been hired as an assistant coach and will help with the secondary and special teams. Jackson was previously the Bengals wide receivers coach from 2004-2006. Sounds like Jackson is going from being a head coach to being a “helper.”  That has to hurt his ego a little.
