Bengals Post:
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matt Jones hopes to return to practice Thursday after dealing with a foot injury, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
Reports indicated Jones showed up to camp on Tuesday in a boot and is sat out of practice again today because of a bruised foot. With the amount of competition at wide receiver, Jones may need to get back on the field as quickly as possible if he has any chance at securing a roster spot. The Bengals already appear to have five players locked for the wide receiver position—which means Jones is one of five players competing for the final one or two spots.
Cincinnati signed Jones to a one-year deal back in February with the intention of using him in the slot and as a reliable deep threat—an area the Bengals struggled with last season after Chris Henry passed away. Jones was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 21st pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, but was released by the team in March 2008 after his second run-in with the law.
