Bengals Post:
Last week, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matt Jones was at a disadvantage after he missed most of training camp last week due to a bruised foot. After Sunday’s Hall of Fame game against the Dallas Cowboys, he took a step in the right direction by making a case for a spot on the team’s roster.
As hard as it may be to get excited about a preseason game, Jones deserves credit for leading all Bengals wide receivers with three receptions for 42 yards. With five players most likely a lock for a roster spot, Cincinnati contains five other wide receivers competing for the final spot(s)—which means making the cut won’t be easy for Jones.
After sitting out the 2009 season since no teams were interested in him, the Bengals decided to take on Jones after numerous run-ins with the law led to his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars. He signed a one-year deal in February just above the league minimum.
