Tennessee Titans safety Bernard Pollard tweeted on Wednesday that he was fined $42,000 by the NFL for his hit on Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson last Sunday. The hit resulted in a concussion for Johnson. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen says league sources have confirmed to him that Pollard was fined $42,000 for hitting a defenseless receiver in the head with his shoulder. A penalty wasn’t called on the play, and Pollard actually turned his head to avoid a helmet-to-helmet hit. The NFL doesn’t announce fines until Friday. Pollard is expected to appeal the ruling. Pollard tweeted the following about the fine: So @nfl said I did “everything right” but 42k later I still get fined. Wow! It’s called football but they want 2 hand touch. #TitanUp# — Bernard Pollard Jr (@Crushboy31) September 18, 2013   Since 2010, Pollard and Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson have led the league in unnecessary roughness penalties. Pollard has racked up 14, while Goldson earned his 15th flag during Tampa Bay’s Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Pollard joined the Titans this offseason and this is already the second time he has been fined. He also earned a $10,000 fine for a late hit out of bounds against the Washington Redskins during the first week of the preseason. The 28-year-old Pollard is in his eighth NFL season and the Titans are his fourth team. Last year he helped the Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII. He signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Titans back in March. Pollard has always been known as a vicious hitter who occasionally goes overboard to deliver a big blow. Don’t be shocked if he gets fined again in the near future.
