As summer continues to fly by, the Eagles time at Lehigh University has already done so. I feel like they just got there, but the Eagles are already done with their time in Bethlehem. Have we learned a lot about this team? I like to think so. However, I think a lot of questions still remain.

The one that really jumps out to me surrounds the quarterback position. Honestly, what the hell are the Eagles going to do if Michael Vick goes down? Throw in any other quarterback currently on the roster. I don’t think it would really matter. Nick Foles showed some promise in the first preseason game, but you can’t tell me he could jump in midseason and things would go off without a hitch.

Is there a chance that we’ll never have to find out the answer to this question? Sure there is. However, Michael Vick’s track record would indicate that we will see the answer whether we like it or not. There aren’t any great free agent options out there and I can’t foresee the Eagles making any kind of move. We’ll have to hope that Vick stays healthy as I could see a serious injury being devastating for the Eagles postseason hopes.

One thing that will play into Vick’s health is the play of his offensive line. At the end of last season, I thought this would be one of the Eagles’ strong points coming into 2012. My feeling on this changed after Jason Peters was lost for the season. Now the big question is who will play at the left tackle position and how well will they protect Vick.

It seems that it will likely be either King Dunlap or Demetress Bell. Bell was the early front runner but has since been demoted. Dunlap is getting his shot now and has stepped up to the challenge in the past. At the same time, Dunlap has seen his share of hardships.

Whoever it ends up being will have a big task ahead of them. They will need to protect the asset that the Eagles are paying very lucratively and the player the Eagles are relying on most to carry them towards a championship.

On the defensive side of the ball, the line is incredibly stacked. The corners have high expectations and the linebackers are definitely upgraded in comparison to last season. Safety is the area that concerns me.

I think everyone is ready to chalk the Jaiquawn Jarrett experience up as a loss. The Eagles had high hopes for him after selecting him in the second round, but it just hasn’t panned out like they would have hoped.

The likely starting tandem seems to be Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen. They are familiar faces but neither seems to be Pro Bowl bound anytime soon. For both players, I think consistency will be something they need to find in 2012. Coleman and Allen have been serviceable options at times, but they have both failed to play with any consistency from game to game.

You don’t want to have to worry about the guys who are your last line of defense. However, they are the biggest defensive concern I have right now.
