Former Louisville running back Bilal Powell is expected to have a breakout season in 2013 with the New York Jets. Powell played in just two games as a rookie in 2011 and had an increased role during his second season in the league, playing in 14 games, averaging 30 yards per contest. As he enters his third season in the NFL, Powell has a chance to be the full time starting running back for the New York Jets. During he teams annual “Green & White Scrimmage” over the weekend, Powell was impressive to say the least. “I thought Bilal Powell really jumped out on offense,” head coach Rex Ryan said following the scrimmage. “He ran the ball hard.” Now, obviously with the opportunity he’s been given, he’s really taken the reins.” Powell carried the ball six times for 41 yards against the Jets’ first-team defense.
