Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Sunday it was "great" for the organization to reach a contract extension with star linebacker Jerod Mayo. Mayo's rookie deal runs through 2012, and his five-year extension will keep him under contract through 2017. Belichick was happy to come to terms with Mayo earlier than many expected. "It's great to have him," Belichick said. "He's our defensive captain, has been since the second year in the league. He's a good football player. He's a good leader. He really takes a lot of pride in what he does and makes the players around him better....
BEST OF MAXIM
We learned earlier this morning, that Patriots LB Jerod Mayo has just signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him in New England through 2017. But terms were not available at the time.
We have some now. How much will Mayo earn?
I’m told Mayo will earn $50 million over five years, with $27 million guaranteed. He has $4.5 million guaranteed in 2015, which no other NFL...
Bill Belichick had a confession to make. He's a hoarder. The Patriots head coach was asked Monday what he does with all of the memorabilia that he's piled up over the years, and Belichick said he's pretty much kept it all, including notebooks from his first NFL season with the Baltimore Colts in 1975. Of course, with five Super Bowl rings and a host of hats and T-shirts...
Before the Patriots beat the Broncos on Sunday, captain Jerod Mayo earned a five-year contract extension. After that, he made eight tackles and helped key a come-from-behind win. Lots to discuss. And Mayo did so in the post-game locker room. Check out my video:
By Tim BrittonDENVER -- Jerod Mayo had a few reasons to celebrate this weekend.
The linebacker was all smiles decked out in his AFC East champions gear following Sunday's 41-23 win over the Broncos. That, in turn, came on the heels of a five-year extension Mayo worked out with the Patriots on Saturday.
"I'm very grateful, just for my family, Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick...
If there's been one consistent element of Bill Belichick's tenure in New England, it's been the ever-entertaining injury report. Whether Tom Brady really was "probable" with an "elbow injury" for several years, we never really can know, but we certainly have our doubts. The star quarterback found his way on the practice report a couple of times this...
New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo has reportedly received a five-year contract extension.
The Patriots ensured that linebacker Jerod Mayo won’t be going anywhere any time soon, signing him to a five-year contract extension yesterday that will keep him with the team through 2017, a league source confirmed to the Globe.
Hold the Mayo? Not in Foxboro, buddy. The New England Patriots have signed inside linebacker Jerod Mayo to a five-year contract extension. One of the few bright spots on the current New England defense, Mayo will probably be spying St. Tebow on Sunday. [Adam Schefter]
Why aren't Jason Pierre-Paul and Victor Cruz of the New York Giants on the Pro Bowl ballot despite their outstanding...
It has been a Tebow-filled week of build-up for the Patriots-Broncos game, and the Denver QB has captured plenty of imagination. Today at Sports Authority Field at 4:15 p.m., the talking will finally cease and the game will begin. Before it does, let’s get some final thoughts from LB Jerod Mayo and DT Vince Wilfork. Check out my video:
Bill Belichick is fond of telling players that December is moving month in the NFL - as in some teams move up in the standings and into a playoff spot, while others wilt and do not.
Looks like Jesus wasn’t kidding around when he said he wouldn’t be around to help out Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos this week, as they got crushed by the New England Patriots, 41-23.

DATELINE: HUMOR! Not since the Hippie Age of Aquarius has there been a super-hyped game like the New England at Denver match.Back in the 1970s Billy Jack was a hero like Tim Tebow and able to bring down the villains by standing for good sportsmanship and peace in our time. One hundred years ago, Molly Brown was unsinkable in Denver, and Tim Tebow wasn’t about to step onto the...
