It was a perfect storm of bad that ushered out Bill Polian, Jim Caldwell, and of course, Peyton Manning in addition to many others of the "old era." Manning's neck injury combined with Joseph Addai's injury plus a little bad luck ultimately brought the Colts to 2-14 finish and the worst record in the NFL, earning them the number one overall draft pick and the right to draft Andrew Luck. Former Colts GM Bill Polian tells Sports Illustrated's Peter King, however, that if the new NFL trade deadline, which begins this season, had been in place, there's a very good chance that the Colts recent history, and probably the destiny of the franchise, would have been forever altered. NFL owners voted this off season to move the trade deadline back two weeks, from the end of week six to the end of week eight. According to Polian, had that option been available last season, the Colts would have pulled the trigger on a trade that would have brought Kyle Orton to Indianapolis to finish out the season
