It’s time to take one last look into that magic crystal ball...

  SEATTLE SEAHAWKS BOLD PREDICTIONS
MATT FLYNN THROWS FOUR TOUCHDOWNS AGAINST THE PACKERS

The last time Flynn took the field with the Green Bay Packers, for the second start of his career, he threw for 480 yards and 6 touchdowns.  That’s the type of stat line you get when you play Madden with the difficulty on Rookie!  Flynn broke Green Bay records (passing yards, TDs) with that performance against the Lions, who didn’t have a great defense, but weren’t awful either (23rd in the league).  I wonder what team ranked last in the NFL in pass defense last season… Matt Flynn would sure do great if he went up against them, especially if there was some sort of special rivalry/revenge factor when playing that team.

TARVARIS JACKSON TAKES OVER AS STARTER AFTER SIX GAMES

Flynn wins the starting job during training camp, but things don’t go so well for him when it counts.  Besides a monster performance against the Packers (in a game that the Seahawks ultimately lose anyway), he struggles mightily and the Seahawks go 2-4 over their first six, losing to some of their tougher opponents of the season.  With T-Jack looking better during practice, Pete Carroll decides to see how he fares against the Cardinals in Arizona.  Jackson seizes the opportunity and plays the best game of his career.  He starts the rest of the season for Seattle and Flynn makes his way back to the bench.

MARSHAWN LYNCH IS THE BEST RB IN THE NFC WEST

What do Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, and Beanie Wells have in common?
a. They are all injury prone
b. They are starting running backs in the NFC West
c. They have never been traded and play for the team that drafted them
d. They were all born in the summer
e. They aren’t going to have as good a season as Marshawn Lynch
f. All of the above
If you answered F, then you’re correct!  Great work!

Lynch had by far his best season in 2011, rushing for 12 TDs (tied for 3rd most in the NFL) and 1,204 yards (7th).  He also ran for over 100 yards in six of the Seahawks’ final ten games, including 100-yard games against the Ravens and 49ers.  There’s no reason to think his play from last year won’t continue to improve even more.  I foresee 1,400 rushing yards, 15 rushing TDs, and another trip to the Pro Bowl.

DOUG BALDWIN HAS 1000+ RECEIVING YARDS

As an undrafted rookie, Baldwin was impressive, leading the Seahawks in receiving yards (788), receptions (51), and touchdowns (4).  Young and still not having reached his full potential, Baldwin will be even better in 2012.  1,000 receiving yards won’t be too hard for him to come by.

SEAHAWKS FINISH 10-6, EARN WILD CARD SPOT

Despite a tough schedule (AFC East, NFC North), the Seahawks manage to finish 10-6, improving three games from 7-9 in 2011, and earn a playoff birth.  The Seahawks are lucky they get to play their tougher opponents at home (Patriots, Packers, Jets), and face weaker foes on the road (Dolphins, Bills, Panthers).  Ultimately, Seattle falls to the Packers in the Divisional Round, but that doesn’t take away from a successful season for one of the teams from the NFL’s most improved division.
