Rob Ryan back in his days with Dallas. Image from espn.go.com Whenever the Patriots are around, there always seems to be a Ryan that follows. Whether it is the Jets or Saint's, the tempo always is picked up when the teams come together. One of the Ryan's, the coach of the New York Jets Rex Ryan, usually is no problem for the Patriots offense and defense. But the Saint's on the other hand are ALWAYS a challenge for us, with the Patriots having a difficult time picking up the ways of the offense and defense on a regular occasion. Part of the reason is Rob Ryan, the linebacker coach for those pesky Saints. It always seems that whenever the two teams come together, the Saints defense provides a major challenge to the Patriots offense, with the Ryan's being responsible for holding the Patriots to fewer then thirty points three times. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick agrees as he talked to media today, along with WEEI. “I’d say last year they were a really heavy bli...

Why Rex Ryan is off the hot seat...for now

Something has been a little off sense this season started. Sure, there has been an extra helping of upsets and strange results, but that isn’t quite it either. The most noticeable difference is actually what’s missing, not what’s new. The New York Jets now sit with a 3-2 record after beating the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. With the win, the Jets stay just a game back...

Ryan, Jets sparked by many critics, doubters

Rex Ryan insists he and the New York Jets refuse to put much stock into what their many critics and detractors say about them. The coach also acknowledges, however, that all the negative talk outside their facility has helped sparked them to a surprising 3-2 start following a 30-28 victory at Atlanta led by a turnover-free Geno Smith on Monday night. Ryan says Tuesday in a conference...

Belichick explains Rob Ryan's success with Saints

Patriots Coach Bill Belichick is zoned in on finding a victory this Sunday - intent on beating Saints head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who worked under Belichick from 2000-2003 as a linebackers coach for the Pats, then went to Oakland as the Raiders defensive coordinator. Ryan's Black and Gold defense in New Orleans is producing better results than...

Rex Ryan “Mark Sanchez is not dead”

I don’t know if there was any confusion on the topic of whether or not Mark Sanchez was alive or not but Rex Ryan cleared it up. “Mark Sanchez is not dead,” the Jets’ head coach said to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. Thanks a lot Rex. The response came as a typical Rex Ryan question dodge when asked about Sanchez’s future with the Jets. “We’re acting like...

Rex Ryan: Mark Sanchez is not dead

Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez have been through a lot together and the head coach has mostly talked about his quarterback in the present tense. On Wednesday, Ryan found himself awkwardly discussing the injured Sanchez's time with the Jets in past tense but made it clear that Sanchez's quarterbacking career isn't over — wherever it is. “We’re acting like he’s...

Rex goes into detail about workings at safety

BY NICK ST. DENISRex Ryan mixes defensive players like Walter White mixes chemicals.Ryan is working with more than half a dozen new starters on defense yet is still leading a unit ranked second in the league in yards-per-game. The Jets have been exceptional up front, but the secondary has been in flux. While Gang Green has been dealing with injuries at cornerback, Ryan has taken a...

Saints Nation: Did the Saints Really Even Switch to a 3-4?

The hire of Rob Ryan through 5 weeks seems like a huge overwhelming success. The Saints have yet to give up 20 or more points in five straight games and they are doing that with mostly the same players they had last year (add John Jenkins, Kenny Vaccaro and Keenan Lewis). The Saints are currently 11th overall in defense, plenty good enough when you consider the other side of the...

Holmes stays quiet after Rex Ryan suggests he'll probably miss Sunday's game

Santonio Holmes made roughly the same amount of noise in his press conference Thursday as he likely will on the field on Sunday. Rex Ryan suggested Thursday that Holmes will probably miss Sunday’s matchup against the Steelers while the wide receiver was evasive with the media a week after saying “I can’t throw it to myself and catch it otherwise I would.” “The fact he...

Another Substance Suspension for the Jets

Florham Park - Something seemed weird when Rex Ryan was asked to address why tight end Kellen Winslow hasn't been at practice. I'll admit, I came up with some dramatic scenarios. In reality, it's slightly juicy. The NFL announced today that Winslow is suspended for four games for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs. This means Winslow won't...

New York Jets Defensive Line Grade Sheet: Week 5

Another week, another dominant performance from the Jets defensive line. The Jets took on an Atlanta offensive line that has had some injuries and serious struggles this season. On Monday night, on a prime time stage, the big men up front exposed that weakness, limiting quarterback Matt Ryan’s time in the pocket, along with the Falcon’s run game as a whole. I think most expect...

New York Jets: They Might Believe, But Are They Serious?

The New York Jets dodged another bullet with their 30-28 win against the Atlanta Falcons. It was a stunning win for the club that was supposed to be terrible this year. Going away and playing in a hostile Atlanta stadium isn’t a walk in the park. But as we see the Falcons fold right in front of our eyes some things aren’t surprising.Head coach Rex Ryan has his players believing...

New York Jets Week 5 – Linebacker Grade Sheet

After a stunning week five win in Atlanta, the Jets are beginning to turn heads in the NFL. A big reason for their surprising success has been the superb play from Rex Ryan’s defense. Team’s are struggling to develop any type of ground game against the Jets, which is also limiting their aerial attack (no development of play action). The Jets linebackers were finally tested against...

Rex Ryan Says Mark Sanchez Isn’t Dead

It is good to know Sanchez is still with the living. “We’re acting like he’s dead. Mark Sanchez is not dead,” head coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday. “Sanchez is going to be 100% healthy, guys. It’s not like his career’s over.” But when asked if Sanchez would be back with the Jets, Ryan dodged. “I don’t want to get into that. I think he’s going to come back 100...

Kellen Winslow suspended 4 games without pay by NFL

New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow has been suspended without pay for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Winslow will miss games against Pittsburgh, New England, Cincinnati and New Orleans. He’ll be eligible to return to the Jets on Monday, Nov. 4, the day after the Jets

Patriots-Saints game preview

Week 6 is here, while kickoff isn't near yet. It is certainly approaching and with that said, this Sunday's game is a pretty big match-up with the 4-1 Patriots taking on the 5-0 New Orleans Saints. The Saints are backed with high end offensive talent and a defense that has been improving thanks to defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. The Patriots are coming off of their first...
