The NFL’s policy on positive tests for performance-enhancing drugs leads to a lot of speculation. When a player tests positive, the specific drug or substance that they test positive for remains confidential. As a result, most of the failed drug tests across the NFL this year have been linked to Adderall — whether by fact or wishful thinking. The bottom line is the NFL is fine with the media and fans thinking positive drug tests are most commonly linked to Adderall, because failing a drug test for Adderall does little to compromise the integrity of the game the way a steroid problem would. However, Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall said Adderall is not the only prescription drug he has heard of players using to boost their on-field performance. “I don’t know too much about Adderall,” Marshall said Wednesday according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “I know guys, it is such a competitive league, guys try anything just to get that edge. I’m fortunate enough to be blessed with size and some smarts to give me my edge. But some guys, they’ll do whatever they can to get an edge. “I’ve heard of some crazy stories. I’ve heard (of) guys using like Viagra, seriously. Because the blood is supposedly thin, some crazy stuff. So, you know, it’s kind of scary with some of these chemicals that are in some of these things so you have to be careful.” And we thought the excuse Richard Sherman reportedly gave for his positive drug test was bizarre. Perhaps I don’t understand the effects of Viagra use on the common male, but based on the commercials I would think you’d know if players were running around hopped up on the little blue pill. That sounds like it would be dangerous in more ways than one. What will they think of next? Helmet knock to Shutdown Corner
