Brian Hoyer is dealing with memory loss from concussion

The Houston Texans will start backup quarterback T.J. Yates on Sunday against the New York Jets, as regular starter Brian Hoyer is still recovering from a concussion.

In fact, Hoyer, who sustained his concussion Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, has reportedly experienced some memory loss due to the injury.

With the NFL taking head injuries much more seriously over the past few years, it should come as no surprise that Hoyer will miss a game after suffering his concussion. 

Hoyer, who has started six games this season for the 4-5 Texans, has passed for 1,704 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year.

He was named the starting quarterback in the preseason after winning a competition with Ryan Mallett. After getting benched in favor of Mallett but then returning when the original backup struggled, Hoyer had cemented his place as Houston's starter, and the Texans let go of Mallett shortly after due to a string of on- and off-field struggles.

The Texans also claimed quarterback Brandon Weeden off of waivers this week. Weeden is expected to back up T.J. Yates on Sunday.
