Following his release from the Bears, Brian Urlacher spent weeks trying to find a new home. When no team came calling -- at his price, anyway -- the potential Hall of Fame linebacker decided to call it quits.

And that's the way it's staying.

Urlacher reiterated to the Chicago Tribune on Friday that he has no desire to play football.

"My agent ... went through every scenario, what if so-and-so calls? What if they offer me $10 million?" Urlacher said. "I don't want to play. I don't have a desire to play. I'm not in shape. I haven't been doing football stuff. I'm sure I'll miss it when it's time to put the pads on and stuff. But I won't miss how my body feels when I'm done."

Instead, the 35-year-old is honing his golf game, nary a care for his prior football responsibilities.

"Yeah, I’m playing a lot of golf," Urlacher said. "The first thing on my mind when I wake up isn’t working out anymore. So that's a good thing. Doesn't make me mad.’’

Most ex-football greats land jobs in coaching or broadcasting, both well-paying jobs that are much less physically taxing than suiting up on Sundays. Urlacher doesn't have an interest in either.

"I don’t think I would be a good coach,’’ he said. "First of all, I don't want to spend the time coaching. I feel bad for them. During the season, they work 90 hours a week. I don’t want to do that.’’

"I don’t think I would be very good on TV broadcasting games. 'He’s running left, he’s running right, 28 has the ball.' I don’t know,’’ Urlacher said. "We’ll see. I’ve got a lot of time to think about it.’’

It's a bit surreal, but the next football-based activity we could see Urlacher involved in would be his induction into Canton a few years from now.
