Sheldon Brown has been a full-time starting cornerback in the NFL since 2004, but his role has now seemingly been reduced.
He said the Browns have told him hell enter the action when the defense employs its nickel package against three-receiver sets. In other words, Buster Skrine is expected to start in place of Brown, and Dimitri Patterson will fill in for suspended starter Joe Haden when the Buffalo Bills (1-1) visit the Browns (0-2) Sunday. Brown would only start if the Browns open in nickel.
Im not going to be a distraction, Brown, who has started 131 games in his 11-year career, said Thursday after practice. I never will be a distraction. Too much respect for [General Manager] Tom Heckert and [coach] Pat Shurmur, so it is what it is. Im here to help this team. If thats in a mentoring role, Im here to help mentor. And I have no problem with doing that.
Browns streak of 33 consecutive starts for the Browns ended Sunday in a 34-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He played only one snap, extending his streak of regular-season games played to 162 in a row.

What to watch for: Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns
In what seems to be a yearly affair, the Buffalo Bills are taking on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday in Cleveland. There are a few things to watch for in this game before one can make a solid prediction on the game.
Rookie running back Trent Richardson showed the league what he is capable of last week by earning his first 100-yard game. Richardson is elusive and powerful. The...
Cleveland Browns fans expected to be patient once again
Cleveland, OH. Heading into the 2012 NFL regular season, is there a team who has less hope this year than the Cleveland Browns? In a league where huge turnarounds can happen within just a season or two, it seems as if nobody who knows the game well at all is picking the Browns to be anywhere near the playoffs come January. In fact, based on the overall talent level in the NFC...
Browns aim to slow down Spiller
BEREAWhen the season started, Fred Jackson was at the top of the depth chart for the Bills.
However, as happens so often in the NFL, when a player goes down with injury another player explodes on the scene. That is the case with running back C.J. Spiller, who took over when Jackson hurt his knee in the season opener after just six carries. Jackson is not expected to play this week...

Buy some long johns, Jimmy: Retractable roof on Browns Stadium a bad step in the wrong direction
We should have seen it coming when these jerks started kicking people out of the Dawg Pound for standing, but still. Why is there even a conversation about putting a roof on Browns Stadium? Why is City Council talking about it? Why is Jimmy Haslam even entertaining the idea?
As terrible as the Browns have been for the last decade, it’s understandably funny to think about fanciful...
Jim Brown finally sees greatness in Trent Richardson
During the offseason, Cleveland Browns great Jim Brown went out of his way to let everyone know that he thought Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson was just “ordinary”. Not only did he say it once, he later clarified his statement so he could add that he still didn’t see anything special with Richardson.
Of course, Richardson took the high road, but many wondered how...
The Man Browns Fans Think Is Extraordinary Trent Richardson Set To Meet The Great Jim Brown Who Called Him Ordinary

Trent Richardson will finally meet the man who called him “Just Ordinary” before the Browns draft and stuck by those words even after the Cleveland Browns used their number one pick int he NFL draft...
Jim Brown says he was looking to motivate Trent Richardson with his comments
Back in April, Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown said that Trent Richardson was just an “ordinary” back and that the Browns should draft someone else. Now it looks like he’s eating his words.
According to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Brown is now saying he sees flashes of greatness from Richardson already.
It’s really entertaining listening to...
Cleveland Browns News: WR Greg Little irritates fans with Twitter photo
The Cleveland Browns have started the 2012 campaign 0-2. The fan base is disappointed once again. However, WR Greg Little is celebrating on Twitter as if the Browns are sitting atop the division, something which has drawn the ire of Browns fans on the social network platform.
Shortly after the conclusion of the Browns loss to in-state rival Cincinnati last Sunday, Little headed over...
Shurmur says Brown's role will be changing
With the Browns getting ready for their second game without suspended left cornerback Joe Haden, Coach Pat Shurmur has some decisions to make about what to do at right cornerback. Buster Skrine started in place of 11-year veteran Sheldon Brown at right cornerback against the Bengals and did not play well. Brown was on the field for only one play to keep alive his streak of consecutive...
Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns: C.J. Spiller Will Run Wild
I know, it’s Cleveland hosting Buffalo; not exactly a recipe for excitement.Admit it, both these teams have been just terrible the last five years.Sure, in 2007 the 10-6 Browns were first in the AFC North, the same year Buffalo took second in the AFC East (though with a slightly less impressive 7-9 record), but conditions were near blizzard level when they met that year, resulting...
Please Destroy the Cleveland Browns
By: Todd C. Clark
If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter (@Todd_C_Clark), you may have seen that my praise for the Buffalo Bills following their game against the Kansas City Chiefs was very limited. I posted how I felt like Randy Quaid’s character in Major League 2 watching the game - huge Bills fan stuck with the feeling this team will amount to nothing going forward. I was...
