Found April 28, 2013 on Cleveland Sports 360:
The Cleveland Browns went into the 2013 NFL draft with plenty of needs to fill. One need was to get another shut down corner to help solidify the teams defensive secondary. They may have done that by drafting, Leon McFadden. We will have to wait and see if McFadden can get up to the speed of the NFL game by September. The guy loves to hit and he can cover receivers on the college level. There is a little concern about his size, but I see that as no problem. He is similar in size to his counterpart Joe Haden, we all know hoe well, Haden performs. The Browns addressed the need for another pass rusher, even though many thought the Browns didn’t need another guy to rush the passer. The pick up of Barkevious Mingo will give the Browns options with their line-backers and D.E.’s. Keeping those guys fresh throughout the games and that could prove to be a huge advantage. Cleveland fans were more than a little disappointed when the team passed the change to draft the Honey Badger. Many though...

Browns’ unexciting draft low on fun, but high on strategy

Sometimes punchlines are just too easy. The low-hanging fruit dangling mere inches from the blades of grass. The Browns traded two straight draft picks and you would have thought they’d done this as a part of their M.O. for decades and decades. “The Browns are on the clock… you know to trade another pick!” Hilarious. Yes, the Browns have traded in the draft in recent years...

NFL Draft: Browns select OL Garret Gilkey from Chardon State (Neb) in 7th round

The Browns completed their 2013 draft by selecting OL Garret Gilkey from Divison 2 Chardon State in Nebraska. Gilkey was the Browns second consecutive selection of a player from a D2 school with the choice of Armonty Bryant ten picks earlier out of East Central. After missing the first two games of his junior season due to an Achilles injury, Gilkey went on to start the remainder...

The Browns have essentially forfeited the 2013 season

Usually we have to wait until late September to officially declare the Cleveland Browns dead in the water, but this year, I think it's safe to make that declaration following the first five rounds of the draft. Despite a completely overhauled and new regime, the same problems the Browns have faced in recent memory will persist. There's still questions at quarterback,...

The Cleveland Browns let Michael Lombardi out of hiding to hold a press conference on the Davone Bess trade.

For most of the off-season Joe Banner and the Cleveland Browns have kept general manager Michael Lombardi in hiding. Banner said earlier that Lombardi was too much of a lightning rod. The Cleveland media has a field day when they have a chance to pick on Lombardi, most of the Cleveland fan base remembers all too well about Lombardi’s troubled past with the Cleveland Browns. It...

Davone Bess is thankful the Dolphins traded him to the Browns

Wide receiver Davone Bess told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he’s thankful  that the Dolphins traded him to the Browns. “My initial reaction was it was bittersweet, obviously being down here in Miami since my rookie year, having developed a relationship with the organization, the fans and kind of embracing my opportunity was something special here,” said Bess. “But all...

Cleveland Browns 2013 NFL Draft Recap: Smoke and Mirrors?

The Cleveland Browns once again proved they are the kings of mystery when it comes to the NFL Draft.Prior to the start of the draft, the Browns held seven picks overall, having a selection in every round except for the second, which they forfeited last season by selecting wide receiver Josh Gordon of Baylor in the supplemental draft. And, while at the end of the third day they had...

NFL Draft: Browns select DE Armonty Bryant from East Central (OK) in 7th round

With the 217th pick of the 2013 draft the Browns selected DE Armonty Bryant of Division 2 East Central in Oklahoma. Bryant originally enrolled at D2 powerhouse Abeline Christian, but did not play his freshman year leading to his transfer to Cisco Junior College (TX) before eventually making his way to East Central. East Central, relatively unknown the football public, is the alma...

2013 NFL Draft – “Did the Browns win or lose?” with Scott Raab – WFNY Podcast – 2013-04-29

Scott Raab wasn’t enthused this morning after the Browns’ draft. Craig is cautiously optimistic about the value and strategy. Both finish by saying, “We’ll see.” The Browns’ strategy and value Scott’s dismayed by the Browns draft Attacking the quarterback vs. filling defensive backfield Are the corners really too short? 20+ players are going into their second year...

Browns select DE Bryant in 6th round

With the first of two seventh-round picks, the Cleveland Browns selected defensive end Armonty Bryant from East Central Oklahoma in the NFL draft. The Browns used the 217th overall pick on the 6-foot-3, 263-pound Bryant, who didn't perform the bench press at the scouting combine following right shoulder surgery. Bryant, the Division II school's career leader with 26.5 sacks...

2013 NFL Draft Team Grades: Cleveland Browns

First Round: Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU I hate this pick. Mingo just ins't that good. Cleveland already got their pass rusher in free agency, and didn't need to take a chance on a bum like Mingo with the sixth overall selection. I think he will be a bust very early on, similar to Maybin in 2009. Cleveland will regret not taking Smith or Milliner here I believe...

Browns make good move acquiring Bess

Sometimes, the best moves are the ones that arent planned. The trade to acquire veteran wide receiver Davone Bess might have been one of the best moves the Browns made over the three days of the NFL Draft. Even though he has played five NFL seasons, the Browns count him as part of the draft process. We view Bess as part of the draft and we were fortunate being able to trade back...

(Note: We’ll try to keep an eye on this without going overboard in non-Browns news angles, but when something significant does occur, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.)
