According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cleveland Browns are bringing in Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine in for a second interview about their head coaching vacancy. The Browns had been hoping to hire Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase as their new head coach, but he withdrew his name from consideration earlier today. This coaching search has turned into an absolute nightmare for the Browns.
Pettine reportedly wants the job very badly, and will likely end up being the new head coach in Cleveland. That being said, the Browns have made it clear that whatever coach they bring in will have to conform to their plan for the future. Supposedly, the Browns really want to take Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the draft, and they expect their new head coach to be 100% on board with that selection.
It will be interesting to see if the Browns decide to keep looking for a better head coach or if they settle for Pettine. He’s certainly a solid defensive coordinator, but it remains to be seen what he would bring as a head coach. There are no reports about a deal being close to done, but a second interview means that things are moving in that direction.
