Browns starting right guard Shawn Lauvao is undergoing arthroscopic ankle surgery and will not be ready for the start of the regular season.
Coach Rob Chudzinski said Friday that Lauvao (la-vow), who has made 32 consecutive starts, did not break a bone when he was injured earlier this week in practice. Chudzinski would not provide any other specifics of Lauvao's injury or a timetable for his return.
Jason Pinkston started for Lauvao in Thursday night's exhibition opener against St. Louis and will likely be in the starting lineup for the Sept. 8 opener against Miami. Pinkston made 22 consecutive starts at left guard before he was developed blood clots in his lungs last season.
Lauvao was one of four Browns offensive linemen who did not miss a snap last season.

It might feel like the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only team in the league that is currently losing players to injury, but trust me when I say it is happening to other teams as well. According to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Cleveland Brown staring right guard Shawn Lauvao is undergoing ankle surgery and [...]

Cleveland Browns rookie LB Barkevious Mingo made his NFL debut in smashing fashion Thursday night as he pressured St. Louis Rams quarterbacks and registered a special team’s tackle.
BEREA, Ohio -- There's no question that Travis Benjamin has big play ability on special teams as evidenced by his 91-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first preseason game last week against the Rams. Benjamin said he knew he was going to score a touchdown once he turned the corner.
"(I was thinking) just get in the end zone," he said. "I know if I can get...
The Cleveland Browns finished the 2012 season with a 5-11 record.
In the offseason, the Browns underwent an entire front office change which included hiring a new head coach, Rob Chudzinski.
The Browns also brought in a number of players this offseason, including linebackers Paul Kruger and Quentin Groves, defensive tackle Desmond Bryant, tight end Gary Barnidge, wide receivers Davone...
Brandon Weeden won over some of his critics and got a skeptical town fired up about the season with an impressive preseason debut against the Rams Thursday night.
Weeden did everything he set out to do in the first exhibition game - a 27-19 Browns victory at FirstEnergy Stadium -- and then some.
In two series of work he completed 10 of 13 attempts for 112 yards and a two-yard touchdown...
CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns are playing it safe with Trent Richardson.
Cleveland's star running back will not play in the club's exhibition opener on Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams as he continues to recover from an injured right shin. Richardson was accidentally kicked in the shin -- the same one he hurt during spring practice -- last week, and the Browns won...
Cleveland head coach Rob Chudzinski confirmed in a conference call on Friday that guard Shaun Lauvao had arthroscopic surgery on his injured ankle.
“He’ll miss some time early in the regular season.” said Chudzinski. “I don’t have any definitive dates and times on that. We’ll just have to see how that goes from the results of the scope, and how he’ll progress over the...
Last night was great. It was an evening all about football, and even though it was just preseason action, I couldn't get enough. For much of the night, I was flipping between games or watching NFL Network's "RedZone" style coverage. Here's some quick observations about the evening.
10/13, 10/14 and 6/7 — that was the stat line for each of the three quarterbacks...
Brandon Weeden made coach Rob Chudzinski's debut a success, and may have stopped any quarterback controversy before it started.
Weeden threw a touchdown pass and led Cleveland on two scoring drives, and Travis Benjamin returned a punt 91 yards for a TD as the Browns won Chudzinski's first exhibition game, 27-19 over the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night.
Brandon Weeden's goals were to manage the game, not make any mistakes and keep Cleveland's offense going forward.
He did much more than that.
Weeden made coach Rob Chudzinski's debut a success, and the second-year quarterback may have stopped any controversy before it started.
Weeden threw a touchdown pass and led Cleveland on two scoring drives, and Travis Benjamin...
As I get older, and maybe even a bit wiser as a football fan, I’ve started to filter out some of the less meaningful debates, I think. Yes, I’m still willing to discuss Indians attendance even as it has little impact on me or what I choose as my relationship to the Cleveland Indians, but I still think I’ve gotten better. One place, specifically where I think I’ve gotten savvier...
Thursday I gave you five things I was watching for each the starters and the reserves. This is the evaluation of those topics.
From the starters:
1) The Browns did have a rhythm on offense. Unlike many games last season, Weeden came out and hit receivers early. The first play from scrimmage Weeden hit Lewis on a little swing pass out of the backfield. He hit on his next three passes...
I have a feeling poor Trevin Wade is going to be picked on in the Browns secondary this year. What with him standing at only 12 inches tall, it's going to be fairly easy for receivers to beat him to those jump balls. Hopefully he gets a cool fraction uniform for the regular season like Eddie Gaedel.
