The Cleveland Browns got a much need shot in the arm when new owner Jimmy Haslam bought the organization. Haslam didn’t spend $1 billion as a majority owner to lose football games. He has his coaching staff in place, personnel department scouring the NFL for talent, and he’s going to be right in the thick of it. The main question fans want to know about an owner is if he cares about winning, and Haslam is committed to turning the Browns around. The coaches and Mike (Lombardi) and his staff are going through and looking at our roster first, they're looking at the free agent candidates second and we'll have a series of meetings and then we'll finalize those plans. My instincts are strongly the same as we said on Aug. 3rd in Berea, that we'll continue to build through the draft and use free agency to supplement our team and improve our team where advantageous without mortgaging our future,'' via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plains Dealer. "I've seen some of the rumors, who we're going to sign and that's what makes the NFL so exciting. I'm glad a lot of people are covering it and a lot of people are interested.'' "Our family has a tremendous investment and we want to win as bad as anybody does up there and we're going to do whatever it takes to win.''

Expectations remain unchanged as Browns changes continue

I’m feeling surprisingly good about the Cleveland Browns right now. I know that sounds funny to say at this point in the year. I’ve been kind of down on them with all the unknown variables hanging in the air, but a week out of the loop 1 gave me a bit of perspective on the team and just what they’ve done so far this off-season. Let’s just say the word “rebuild” hasn’t...

Browns could do double damage with AFC North free agents, including Ravens Joe Flacco

When a team gets to sign a key free agent from a division rival, it’s looked upon as doing double the damage. It takes the player away from their team, and the acquiring team has a motivated player to show his former team what they gave up. The Cleveland Browns are sitting in the middle of a deep AFC North free agent class, and they can help themselves, while hurting their...

Browns have tons of cap space and are ready to spend

Former general manager Tom Heckert didn’t burn the building down so to speak. Heckert did a good job of not overspending and started building youth before he was let go. New GM Mike Lombardi will be working with approximately $40 to $48 million dollars, and can restock a roster that lacks top notch talent, but has solid building blocks.

Playing the Slots: Greg Little Edition

When supremely talented wide receivers are moved to the slot with more frequency, we’re excited about their usage becoming slightly less predictable. When a guy like Greg Little moves to the slot, we’re happy to see a moderately talented pass catcher play a more natural position. Little isn’t Stevie Johnson, and he certainly isn’t Larry Fitzgerald, but talk of the Browns’...

NFL News: Browns sign punter Spencer Lanning

The Cleveland Browns today signed punter Spencer Lanning. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears on July 26, 2011, Lanning spent training camp with the Browns last season before being waived on August 26, 2012. He has also spent time with Jacksonville and the New York Jets. Lanning was a four-year letterman at the University of South Carolina (2007-10...

“We’ll take whatever time necessary in Cleveland to do two things, one to bring a winner back here and number two, to become part of the Cleveland community.” — Jimmy Haslam, 08/03/12 “We’re not doing this for a hobby. We’re all in.” — Dee Haslam, 10/2012 “Anything we do, we’re all in.” — J.W. Johnson, Jimmy and Dee Haslam’s son-in-law, 10/2012 “Less...

NFL Draft: Browns should avoid selecting a quarterback early per Mel Kiper

While the Cleveland Browns front office looks to address the quarterback position this offseason, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr feels that, if the team were to desire to do so via the draft, they could be in for a bit of a gamble as current quarterback Brandon Weeden could have been the top passer taken had he been able to wait until 2013 to declare for the NFL. “Obviously you look at...

NFL Rumor: Browns listed as prime candidate to steal Flacco from Ravens

The Cleveland Browns could conceivably roll into Year One of the Joe Banner experiment with Brandon Weeden at the helm. They could bring in a cagey veteran to give Weeden a bit of a challenge for the starting spot. They could also try to acquire a questionable cast-aside starter in San Francisco’s Alex Smith. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, however, things the Browns could...
