Big night tonight, of course, with kickoff in Detroit at 7:30, but not as big as Browns/Lions pre-season matchups used to be. Of course, it will always be a paradigmatic subject of intense historical and scientific interest that not only do the only two non-expansion NFL football teams to never make a Super Bowl meet in an annual pre-season game, but that this pre-season game was “christened” by Carmen Policy as “The Great Lakes Classic,” with possession of “a rotating bronze trophy of an iron ore ship” having gone to the winner each year the way high school rivals exchange bells or wagons or whatever.
Incredibly, however, nobody seems to know where this trophy is today.
