Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer is happy to have an opportunity with the team to show the coaches what he has. Having seen Hoyer at New England Patriots practices the past two years, and preseason games also in that span, Hoyer is a legitimate contender for the starting QB position. Hoyer has a very good football mind, compact delivery, and good comparison would be to former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia. He has a good command of an offense, making adjustments pre-snap, but he hasn’t played any meaningful games. However Hoyer feels this is a great opportunity to draw on his experience from New England, and put it towards the Browns QB competition. "You realize when you get out there and actually get a chance to play that it's just football. And a lot of it can be built up to, 'Well, there's a lot of scheme and stuff like that,' but when you get back out on the field and get a taste of playing, you realize for a guy like me who hadn't played as much over three years how much you miss being out on the field. No doubt I think I have the capability to be a starting quarterback,'' Hoyer said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plains Dealer. "I’m just coming out here. I’m so far behind these guys. I’m learning from Brandon and Jason and coach (Norv) Turner. Obviously there’s a great coaching staff here, so I’ve been asking them a lot of questions and just trying to catch up. I’m just thankful for the opportunity to compete for a spot on this team. Wherever that goes, we’ll see. But I’m just trying to take it day by day right now, improve myself, and hopefully every day the plays get a little bit easier, the calls get a little bit easier and things like that.”
