Browns running back Trent Richardson says he's healthier than he's been since college. That still might not be good enough to get him into an exhibition game.
Richardson, who has been slowed by a shin injury during training camp, would like to play in Thursday's game against Detroit. Richardson was kept out of the preseason opener last week against St. Louis as a precaution, and Browns first-year coach Rob Chudzinski said the team is discussing whether to use the second-year running back this week.
Richardson said he'll respect whatever decision is made by the team.
Richardson did not play in the preseason a year ago as he was recovering from knee surgery. He says he'll be ready for the Sept. 8 opener against Miami regardless if he plays in any of the four exhibitions.

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns are playing it safe with Trent Richardson.

According to the Akron Beacon-Journal, Browns running back Trent Richardson (shin) will miss Thursday's preseason opener.Fantasy Spin:The number of preseason games Richardson has played in his NFL career will remain firmly at zero. BEREA, Ohio - Thursday night's preseason opener is big for the Cleveland Browns because it's the home "game" debut for a new owner, a new staff, a bunch of new players and a new product all involved hope is on its way to NFL relevance.
One step at a time. But an early preseason cameo is more a necessary evil than any kind of real step, and with the Browns needing...
Brandon Weeden won over some of his critics and got a skeptical town fired up about the season with an impressive preseason debut against the Rams Thursday night.
Weeden did everything he set out to do in the first exhibition game - a 27-19 Browns victory at FirstEnergy Stadium -- and then some.
In two series of work he completed 10 of 13 attempts for 112 yards and a two-yard touchdown...
The Cleveland Browns take on the St. Louis Rams in their first preseason game on Thursday, and running back Trent Richardson will probably stay on the sidelines, reports Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer.
Last Thursday, Richardson was kicked in his right shin at practice, and the team doesn't want to risk any further injury to their lead back, who they have big plans for in...
Last night was great. It was an evening all about football, and even though it was just preseason action, I couldn't get enough. For much of the night, I was flipping between games or watching NFL Network's "RedZone" style coverage. Here's some quick observations about the evening.
10/13, 10/14 and 6/7 — that was the stat line for each of the three quarterbacks...
Brandon Weeden made coach Rob Chudzinski's debut a success, and may have stopped any quarterback controversy before it started.
Weeden threw a touchdown pass and led Cleveland on two scoring drives, and Travis Benjamin returned a punt 91 yards for a TD as the Browns won Chudzinski's first exhibition game, 27-19 over the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night.
Browns backup running back Montario Hardesty is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury that may cause him to lose his spot as No. 2.Fantasy Spin:The oft-injured Hardesty has fallen behind newcomer Dion Lewis who has looked good in training camp. Hardesty is likely now battling with Brandon Jackson for a roster spot.
Brandon Weeden's goals were to manage the game, not make any mistakes and keep Cleveland's offense going forward.
He did much more than that.

Thursday I gave you five things I was watching for each the starters and the reserves. This is the evaluation of those topics.
From the starters:
1) The Browns did have a rhythm on offense. Unlike many games last season, Weeden came out and hit receivers early. The first play from scrimmage Weeden hit Lewis on a little swing pass out of the backfield. He hit on his next three passes...
The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday agreed to terms on a five-year contract with long snapper Christian Yount, the team announced.
