As recently as a decade ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boasted a season ticket waiting list which was over 100,000 anxious fans. In subsequent years, due to poor performance on the field coupled with a downturn in the local economy, that list has evaporated, replaced with local blackouts. Help could be on the way though for local fans of the Buccaneers as well as fans of other NFL teams which deal with blackouts. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, owners have changed the league blackout rules. In recent months, several states have had legislation introduced in their respective states in order to lift the league’s blackout rules. In previous years, NFL venues required a complete sellout of non-premium seats 72 hours prior to kickoff in order to avoid blackouts.   Owners have now voted to require that only 85% of non-premium seating be sold.
