Despite reducing ticket prices, spending in free agency and adopting the league's new 85-percent rule for TV blackouts, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers still are not close to selling out their Sept. 9 season opener against the Carolina Panthers, Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports.

Bucs spokesman Jonathan Grella said Friday the team still must sell about 9,000 non-premium seats in Raymond James Stdium before 1 p.m. next Friday to ensure a lifting of the local TV blackout.

The Bucs are one of at least three NFL teams so far to adopt the new 85-percent rule, which allows the local TV blackout to be lifted if 85 percent of non-premium tickets are sold by 72 hours before kickoff. The Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins are the other teams to adopt the new standard.

The Bucs have also reduced season ticket prices and introduced flexible payment plans to try and boost season ticket purchases and they spent more than $150 million on free agents during the offseason.

With promises of a fresh start, a new head coach, millions spent in free agency, half price concessions, free parking, and a celebration of team legend Ronde Barber's 200th consecutive NFL start, one would think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would have no problem selling out their season opener at Raymond James Stadium against the division rival Carolina Panthers. Okoye signed a one-year deal with Tampa Bay this offseason but knee issues limited him in minicamps and...

Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera Showed Class By Going For Two

One of the most overlooked aspects of the Thursday night preseason finale between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Carolina Panthers was the decision made by Panthers head coach Ron Rivera to go for the two point conversion following the 79 yard touchdown pass from Panthers quarterback Jimmy Clausen to undrafted wide receiver Lamont Bryant with 2:31 left in the game. Rivera could...

Cam Newton Tosses Up The Bunny Ears

I’m always down for some fun Juan… Cam Newton brings fun and enthusiasm to the No. Fun. League. Some will say he’s immature, but I think he’s just a big kid running around playing a kids game. I love this guy from a fantasy standpoint as well as a real deal QB this season. Smitty is dealing with a little foot injury right now, but Cam has re-kindled his flame for playing...

Offensive Line Fantasy Value of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have experienced the highs and lows of NFL Football in just the past three years.  They were a dismal 3-13 in 2009, then in 2010 exuberant Coach Raheem Morris brought them to 10-6 and on the cusp of the playoffs, and in 2011 they crashed back to earth losing 9 of their last 10 to finish 4-12.  The end result was that after being hailed as one of the “young bucs”...

Who Will Be The Breakout TE Of 2012?

Riddle me this Juan… I will go through 20 burning fantasy questions leading into the season.  Question #7: Who will be the breakout TE of 2012? There is quite of few young TEs that could really breakout this season such as Kyle Rudolph, Jared Cook, and Jermaine Gresham, but the guy I like to make a huge jump this season is Greg Olsen. Jeremy Shockey leaves behind 37 receptions...
