Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis continues to be the talk of the offseason. And with nearly every Revis mention, the Buccaneers are included within the same sentence.  After WalterFootball.com noted the Bucs as a “logical” option for Revis, NFL.com columnist Adam Schein said on Tuesday he was told Bucs are best option for the Jets cornerback: I asked 2 NFL GMs via text what is the best and most realistic fit for Revis. Both had interesting same answer. Tampa.— Adam Schein (@AdamSchein) March 6, 2013 Later in the day, 98.7 The Fan’s Justin Pawlowski later tweeted a report from ESPN’s Ed Werder: Just saw a report from ESPN Ed Werder that the Jets won’t get a 1st round pick for Revis. Also, #Bucs were mentioned. 2nd round pick? Ok!— Justin Pawlowski (@CommishOnline) March 6, 2013 Pawlowski would go on to further stir the connection between Revis and Tampa Bay. Revis’ college head coach Dave Wannstedt and college secondary coach Jeff Hafley are currently on Bucs’ staff. Also, Jets’ general manager John Idzik worked in the Buccaneers’ front office along with general manager Mark Dominik. The connections are obviously there. But as I have stated countless times before, if the Bucs trade for Revis, there is no guarantee he will sign a new deal with them. There would need to be some form of an “agreement” on a deal between Revis and the Bucs at some point during talks in order for the trade to be pulled off (avoiding tampering somewhere in there). There is no way they can pull off a trade with a player in which the contract consists of so much uncertainty like the one Darrelle Revis has. And if a new deal is made, he will still be priced around the $12 – $14 million per year range. A price tag that can land you two quality players in the secondary as opposed to just one. If any team can land the services of Darrelle Revis, they can be very fortunate. However, coming off an ACL injury, a contract in which he controls, and a salary demand that may be too high makes Revis an unrealistic option for the Bucs as opposed to a “logical” one.
