A lackluster performance by the Buccaneers’ offense in the first half proved to be too much to overcome as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 23-21 Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneers entered the second half down 10-0 before finally catching a break in the third quarter when Eagles’ returner Damaris Johnson muffed the punt inside the 10 yard line, allowing the Bucs to recover. Three plays later, Josh Freeman connected with Mike Williams for the touchdown making it 10-7. The Bucs would take a 14-10 lead after Vincent Jackson dove into the end zone after catching a Josh Freeman passing, capping a 77-yard drive. Jackson kept the drive going after a 40-yard catch that put Tampa Bay in Philadelphia territory. On their next drive, Freeman connected with Jackson for 28 yards that put the Bucs at the Eagles 20 yard line. Doug Martin would later find the end zone from four yards out to put the Buccaneers up 21-10. But Tampa Bay’s secondary would fall apart in the second half of the fourth quarter. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles passed for 72 yards on their ensuing drive before connecting with back up tight end Clay Harbor for a touchdown. The score would become 21-16 after they failed the two-point conversion. After the Buccaneers were unable to take more than 1:11 off the clock on their following drive, Philadelphia got the ball back with 2:44 left on the clock. Nick Foles would then convert on two third downs and on a key fourth down to Jason Avant through the air to get the ball down to the Tampa Bay two yard line. Foles would then connect with a knee-sliding Jeremy Maclin with no time left on the clock for the game winning touchdown. The Bucs now fall to a 6-7 record. While they are still mathematically alive for the playoffs, realistically their chances are done with three games remaining on the schedule.
