TAMPA, Fla. -- The wait to see Darrelle Revis play in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform could be in its final days.
On Friday, Bucs coach Greg Schiano said that the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback will play in the season opener against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium if no setbacks occur before Sept. 8.
"Yeah, like I've said all along ... as long as there are no setbacks, that's the plan," Schiano said, a day after Tampa Bay closed the preseason with a 30-12 loss to the Washington Redskins at Raymond James Stadium.
Revis has practiced with the top defense in recent weeks, though he did not play in any of Tampa Bay's four preseason games. Since Revis was traded from the Jets in April, both he and the Bucs have been cautious with his condition as he recovers from a torn ACL in his left knee. However, Schiano has said repeatedly that the team's goal was to have the three-time All-Pro ready come Week 1.
If all goes well in the coming days, that target could be met.

Doomsday reads Saturday, August 31st, 6:00 p.m. for many players in the NFL. That is the time every NFL team must have their roster down to just 53 players.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t have a good preseason, finishing 1-3, which means the front office/coaching staff has a lot of careful decisions to make. When a team’s entire training camp roster plays well, coaches have...
Lawrence Tynes is unhappy with being placed on the non-football injury list. Tynes is dealing with MRSA and the Buccaneers may be trying to dodge future legal battles as guard Carl Nicks also came down with the illness during training camp. While Tampa Bay is willing to pay the $840,000 owed to Tynes this season the kicker is unhappy about being placed on the NFI instead of the injured...
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to execute any kind of offensive or defensive presence in their final preseason game Thursday night — a 30-12 losing effort to the Washington Redskins.
Let’s start with the offense.
Mike Glennon played most of the game, but managed to only complete seven of his 17 passes for 63 yards losing two turnovers in the process (an interception and a lost...
TAMPA, Fla. -- Goodbye, preseason. These Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not miss you.
By definition, the preseason is a fuzzy picture of individual plans, off-the-radar players fighting for jobs and stars hoping to avoid injury. It's wise to use caution when analyzing results that will be forgotten come Week 1.
However, the Bucs closed their exhibition schedule 1-3, following a...
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis has plenty to worry about at the moment. He is reportedly progressing nicely in his rehab from ACL surgery and is targeting a return in the regular season opener. However, we have learned over the past six months that he is never too busy to talk about Seattle Seahawks […]
The goal for teams and players alike during the fourth
preseason game is to exit the field healthy. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay
Buccaneers tight end Tom Crabtree, his exit came via a cart. Crabtree left the
game after suffering a lower-leg injury, according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa
Bay Tribune, an ailment that was ultimately diagnosed as a sprained left ankle.
The Bucs starting...
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed wide receiver Jordan Norwood. Norwood, who plays primarily in the slot, was released by the Cleveland Browns under a week ago. The Browns acquired the services of Davone Bess and do not need Norwood anymore. But in Tampa, they do not have a true slot receiver on staff and Norwood has a chance to carve out a role. Jordan shouldn’t be on your...
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are short-handed at tight end after losing Tom Crabtree to a right ankle injury in the opening quarter of their 30-12 preseason loss to the Washington Redskins on Thursday night.
Crabtree did not return to the game after rolling his ankle while attempting to clear a hole for running back Mike James. Crabtree wheeled around on the ground grasping at the ankle...

Longtime Bills kicker Rian Lindell will be the kicker in Tampa Bay after the Bucs placed Lawrence Tynes on the reserve/non-football illness list.Fantasy Spin:Lindell nailed 21 of his 24 attempts last season but the longest kick he made was only from 50 yards out.
Rian Lindell has bettered Derek Dimke in Tampa Bay's kicking competition, a source told FOX Sports.
Following his release by Buffalo earlier this month after 10 years there and 13 NFL seasons overall, Lindell was signed by the Buccaneers to press the untested Dimke during the preseason.
Lindell, 36, distanced himself from Dimke during Tampa Bay's preseason finale against...
There's a fight coming between Lawrence Tynes and the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers, and itâs going to make his wife
Amanda's tweets seem tame.
It's hard enough to tackle anyone in the National Football League. The average American could only dream of bringing down a ball carrier.
But what about the thought of bringing two guys to the ground?
Well, Washington Redskins linebacker Rob Jackson did exactly that Thursday night when he took down Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon and offensive lineman Mike...
The awesome NFL Films documentary series, "A Football life", returns Tuesday for a third season on NFL Network, kicking off with a profile of eventual Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson two days before the 2013 regular season gets underway.
Tomlinson never really rocked the boat with his personality, but that hasn't stopped the two-time Emmy Award-nominated...
