The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host one of the best teams in the NFL and the NFC South division leader Atlanta Falcons. But Atlanta has seen it’s fair share of close calls this season and the Bucs could very well hand them their second loss of the season. Secondary needs to step up this week. Bucs have been at the bottom of the NFL ranks all season against the pass. Matt Ryan and the Falcons have the third best passing offense in the league. What better game to put an end to 10 games with bad pass defense than to do it against Atlanta. The timing may be right for the Bucs as star wide receiver Julio Jones has been limited in practice this week. Atlanta has him listed as questionable but is expected to play. Bucs cornerback Eric Wright has not participated in practice until Friday and is listed as questionable. Doug Martin needs to run early and often. The fourth best running back in rushing yards in the NFL is Bucs rookie Doug Martin. The 26th rank rush defense is the Atlanta Falcons. Tampa Bay needs to call Martin’s number a lot in this game which can also set up the playaction, similar to what we saw against Carolina. Atlanta nose tackle missed his third straight practice with a quadriceps injury and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has missed the last three games with an ankle sprain. If they are in fact unable to play Sunday, Bucs should take full advantage. This is a statement game. There are still lots of skeptics out there. Many believe this Buccaneers team can still finish the season at or below .500 with six games left. Only way to silence the critics would be to beat the Falcons. If quarterback Josh Freeman is given time to spread the ball around, he and the Bucs can find themselves on lead stories across the nation. Freeman, Vincent Jackson, Doug Martin, Gerald McCoy, and veteran Ronde Barber will contribute greatly and help the Bucs get the victory over Atlanta.
