After Vincent Jackson inked a $55 million deal with the Buccaneers this offseason, he instantly became the team’s top receiver, and shiny new toy for quarterback Josh Freeman.

Jackson, formerly of the Chargers, was tasked with transitioning from Philip Rivers, a perennial Pro Bowler, to Freeman, who most would agree is still a work in progress.

V-Jax disagrees — and that’s an understatement.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Jackson said he feels good about the Bucs’ talent-level, and even better about Freeman, who he’d place amongst the NFL’s top-five signal-callers.

Seriously.

“We were a little more flashy as far as the names go (in San Diego), but I think we’re just as talented here all the way across the board.” Jackson said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “We have tight ends, running backs and obviously, Josh Freeman, and he’s a quarterback I think should be mentioned among the top five in the league.”

Let’s hold it right there, Vincent. You mean to tell me that Freeman, coming off a season in which he threw more interceptions (22) than touchdowns (16), belongs in the same elite echelon as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, the Brothers Manning, and old pal Rivers?

Even Joe Flacco must be shaking his head, wondering what else he must do to get the respect he (thinks he) deserves.

Say this about Jackson, though: At least he believes in his new teammates.
