Raymond James Stadium was often referred to as the crown jewel of the National Football League. But new stadiums across the country have put the Bucs home in need of upgrades.  According to an article published in the Sport Business Journal, the Buccaneers have several ideas in the works for a major refurbishment of their stadium. The request-for-proposal submitted to the NFL in July outlines plans for a 13,000 square foot team store that would be the second largest store in an NFL stadium next to the one inside Cowboys’ Stadium (18,000 square feet). Per the proposal SBJ obtained, it asks vendors to provide dollar figures for grants to help fund stadium renovations and does not specify costs and financing. Aside from the retail store, other plans include the redesigning of all concessions, the remodeling of 195 suites, a makeover of the Lower Galley restaurants, and the construction of a sports bar. The team has also talked about expanding the floor plans in the club areas, according to the report. The most interesting part of the report is what the Bucs are planning to do just outside the stadium. Described in the proposal are plans for a “tailgate village” that could include a roller coaster and a flume ride. Interesting right? Perhaps it can be named after Doug Martin’s nickname “Muscle Hamster” or Mark Barron’s unofficial “Red Barron” depending on the type of coaster. Maybe even after one of Josh Freeman’s snakes. Digressed for a moment. This past offseason, the team made several enhancements to better the fan experience. And while stadium upgrades do not guarantee more fans at the games, it shows ownership is taking the necessary steps to make Sundays more enjoyable.
