With the decision not to tag defensive end Michael Bennett, the Bucs seem to be content with losing him in free agency. To improve their pass rush, they will need more than Da’Quan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn to get after the quarterback. 1. Dwight Freeney, 33, Colts The move to a 3-4 defense in Indianapolis and an ankle injury did not help Freeney in 2012. But even with his struggles, he recorded five sacks which matches Gerald McCoy for second highest on the Bucs last season. 2. John Abraham, 34, Falcons Atlanta’s release of Abraham was a bit of a surprise. The 12-year veteran still had 10 sacks in 2012 and six forced fumbles. Abraham leads the league in sacks among active players with 122. 3. Wallace Gilberry, 28, Bengals Gilberry was not a starter in Cincinnati and still managed to record 6.5 sacks in 2012. He has 20.5 sacks the last four seasons.   There are other free agents like Osi Umenyiora, Cliff Avril, and Kyle Vanden Bosch but they are reportedly seeking contracts in the double digits yearly. The Bucs may not be willing to pay that much for their services. Freeney and Abraham have made a name for themselves in the league and would be a good addition to a Buccaneers defensive line who is in need of veteran leadership. But If I were a betting man, as I was asked on Twitter, I would lean more towards a signing like Gilberry. He is one of the younger ones in the group of defensive ends and won’t demand as much in free agency (made $700,000 in 2012). He is also a good rotation/situational style end which fits what the Bucs may be looking for. The post Bucs potential free agent targets: Defensive end appeared first on The Bay Cave.
