Drew Brees artfully slicked a ball over his offensive line into the hands of a dead-sprinting Darren Sproles, who ran pell-mell through two Falcons and into the end-zone. It was a simple half-back dump--the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints had done this play dozens of times. As he sometimes does when throwing a touchdown, Brees indulged himself in a small fist-pump, at first forward in a gut-punch and then raised in a silent but obvious declaration of victory. It was understated and cool, just as anyone who follows him has come to expect from Brees. He is short for a quarterback, precise and eloquent, with none of Vick's convicted sparkle, Tebow's near-holy charisma or Brady's movie-star looks. In that moment Brees was calm--after all, it was only nine-yard throw.
Only moments later when his linemen hoisted him into the air and the stadium exploded with flashes of light, bulbs further illuminating Brees' luminary performance, would anyone not knowing th...

Saints take title as Brees breaks record
Drew Brees set the NFL record for yards passing in a season, breaking a mark that Dan Marino had held since 1984, and the New Orleans Saints clinched the NFC South title with a 45-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night.
Brees threw for 307 yards and four touchdown passes, the last a 9-yard strike to Darren Sproles that set the record with 2:51 to go.

Did Drew Brees Become A Villain on His Record Setting Night?
The New Orleans quarterback got everything he, his team and Saints fans could have wanted in a 45-16 humiliation of the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. There was the NFC South title, at least one home game in the playoffs, a sweep of archrival Atlanta and the topper of all: Brees breaking Dan Marino’s all-time record for passing yards in a season on his final throw of the...
Falcons Players Salty That Drew Brees Broke Marino’s Record in Final Minutes
They should be salty.
Not at Brees or Sean Payton, but at themselves for allowing Brees to slice up their secondary. If I was on the Falcons I would want to come back and play the Saints in the Playoffs and take my soul back.
With Drew Brees a mere 30 yards away from breaking the single-season passing yards record, Saints coach Sean Payton was presented with an interesting dilemma...
Unnamed Falcons player upset about Saints running up score
On the way to Drew Brees breaking Dan Marino's single-season passing record, the Saints scored a whole lot of touchdowns, and the Falcons resorted to a whole lot of field goals. One writer and an unnamed Falcons player had a problem with the Saints continuing to pass when they were up by 22 points.
It was a questionable decision to say the least to go for it in that manner since...
Stewart Mandel: NFL prospects for Boise State's Kellen Moore; more Mailbag
Kellen Moore is short. Because of that, he's projected as a sixth-round NFL draft pick. Moore may not be the next Drew Brees, but he could be close, says Stewart Mandel in the Mailbag.
Spurs post huge TV ratings
San Antonio Spurs fans showed why they’re one of the best, most loyal fan bases in the NBA, not to mention how desperate they were for the season to start. Aside from selling out the AT&T center for opening night against the Memphis Grizzlies, the game was the highest rated primetime program on Monday night. This was even more impressive considering there was a Monday...
Cam Newton Blames JaMarcus Russell & Vince Young For His Critics
Cameron is a very good young player and yes he has proved a lot of his critics wrong (myself included), but he still says some things that make absolutely no sense at all.
Here is what Cameron had to say about his critics.
“I can’t sit up here and look at it like, oh man, my critics are racist,” Newton says. “I blame JaMarcus Russell and to some degree Vince Young. If you...
