The Bucs 2012 season included a pass coverage that felt non-existent. Jets’ cornerback Darrelle Revis can instantly upgrade their secondary.  But will he be a good fit?  Yes and quite possibly, no. From a playing standpoint, he most certainly can. The Buccaneers’ cornerbacks were targeted by every quarterback they faced this past season. As a team, they recorded 18 interceptions, eighth best in the league. However, only nine of those picks were from a cornerback. Ronde Barber had four alone. In 2011, Revis was thrown at 85 times and just 41% of those were caught by receivers. Quarterbacks didn’t fair too well throwing Revis’ way neither as they averaged a rating of 45.9. Both stats were best in the NFL. For the sake of comparing, the Bucs “shutdown” corner Aqib Talib allowed a quarterback rating of 109.8, seventh worst in the league. But what may present a problem is not that Revis is coming off an ACL injury, but a contract that gives him the power to opt out of after 2013. Not too mention, if the Bucs do trade for him, he can hold out as he has done in the past. With no guarantee in his contract, just player options in 2014 – 2016, should the Bucs still make a move? Would Mark Dominik give up a high draft pick and perhaps a player with no guarantee for the future from Revis? Every organization would love to have a talent like Darrelle Revis. But the Bucs have other contract situations (like Josh Freeman) that may leave them out of the running for his services.
