Cards Visit Rams for NFC West Bout

By SBRForum.com

When the NFL schedule came out over the summer Thursday night's scheduled bout between the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams at the Jones Dome (8:20 pm ET, NFL Network) didn't garner much attention. But suddenly this is a rather attractive matchup, pitting one of the last undefeated teams in the league against another team coming off an upset victory that got it to 2-2.

Arizona opened its season with a tough 20-16 victory over Seattle, then pulled probably the shocker of this season so far, upsetting the Patriots at New England 20-18. The Cardinals then did a very nice job of avoiding a letdown the following week, pummeling Philadelphia 27-6.

And last Sunday Arizona got a Kevin Kolb touchdown pass on a fourth-and-ten with 20 seconds left to tie Miami at 21, then got the game-winning field goal in overtime to get the Cardinals to 4-0 for the first time since Coach Coryell's 1974 squad started 7-0.

Arizona is also 11-2 straight-up and 8-4-1 vs. the NFL odds over its last 13 games.

On the other side of this matchup St. Louis opened this season with a 27-23 loss at Detroit, giving up the game-winning score with 10 seconds to go. The Rams then upset RG III and the Redskins 31-28. St. Louis then got stuffed in Chicago 23-6, but last week got four field goals from rookie Greg Zuerlein, including a 48-yarder, a 58-yarder and a 60-yarder, in upsetting Seattle 19-13.

So Arizona leads the NFC West by a game over 3-1 San Francisco and two games over St. Louis and Seattle.

Several online sportsbooks opened this game with Arizona favored by 2.5 points, with an OVER/UNDER of 38.5. But as of Tuesday AM most football books had dropped the Cardinals to -1.5 or -1.

So far this season home underdogs on the NFL betting lines are 13-8 SU and 14-7 ATS.

Arizona swept the two games with St. Louis last year, but it wasn't easy. The Cardinals won the first game 19-13 when Patrick Peterson returned a punt 99 yards for a score in overtime, then won the second game 23-20 on a field goal with four minutes to go. Peterson also returned a punt for a score in that second game.
