Per NFL rules, a new head coach means a team gets an extra session of voluntary mini-camp to work on the new playbook. Seems only fair, as players will be making a big transition from one coach to another. Such is the case in Arizona, where Bruce Arians is the new man in charge. As well as Arians being new to team, we also have QB Carson Palmer, who finds himself in a transition after his stay in Oakland. So far so good, says Palmer, who finds the structure of the his new playbook refreshing. “It’s very, I guess user-friendly would be the right word,” Palmer said, via John Marshall of the Associated Press. “There’s a lot on film to watch, plenty of texts in the playbooks and diagrams, pictures. It is easy to learn. It’s not easy, but some systems you get in, it’s difficult to learn because there’s not a lot of history, but with this, there’s a ton of history with this offense and this offense being successful, so it is an easy offense to get used to.” Palmer added that the team has already finished about 75% of the playbook for 2013, and worked on about 5% of it at the first practice at the minicamp.
