Fox Sports Wisconsin:
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers won't have their full complement of cornerbacks in their Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers as Casey Hayward has already been ruled out.
Hayward, who finished third in the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year race last season, suffered a hamstring injury before training camp and missed the first 15 practices. Hayward returned Aug. 19 but hurt that same hamstring again in the Packers' third preseason game and has been out since.
"I don't really have a timeline for Casey," coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. "I hope his status is different next week. When you talk to Casey, he says he's great and making progress, but he will not be available this week."
Hayward started seven games for Green Bay as a rookie and had six interceptions. Despite Hayward's success last season, he was never able to put himself in contention for one of the Packers' starting cornerback spots this season after missing so many practices. Sam Shields and Tramon Williams will almost certainly be Green Bay's two starting outside cornerbacks.
Hayward excelled in the slot in 2012, but that role will likely now go to this year's promising rookie cornerback, Micah Hyde.
"Micah Hyde is really probably one of the top producers as far as production throughout training camp and this will be a great opportunity for him," McCarthy said. "Our secondary is a group that we feel like we've made a lot of progress with. Micah will do whatever is asked and I have a lot of confidence in him."

If you are starting the Green Bay Packers defense this week in Fantasy Football you might want to revisit that thought. Today the Packers interception leader Casey Hayward was ruled out for Sunday’s game. This is a huge blow to the Packers defense, and could ultimately cost them the game. Hayward seemed to always be […]
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t be changing the way he leads just because some of his former teammates criticized him this offseason. “Not at all; I don’t feel like I need to.” “I feel like I’m going to continue to lead the way I’ve been leading, and I think guys respond very
Whether it be the "Discount Double Check" with State Farm or "One Call That's All" for Gruber Law, Aaron Rodgers dominates the Packers when it comes to headlining ad campaigns.
Not for long, though as Rodgers is about to be sacked by his own teammate Clay Matthews. Matthews will be headlining the historic Campbell's Chunky soup ads as this season's...
Wide receiver Jordy Nelson has been medically cleared to play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The Green Bay Packers wide out has been suffering from a knee injury.
This is great news for Nelson owners who had drafted the receiver with no guarantee that he would play in Week 1. While nothing has gone public, it is believed that Nelson will be upgraded on the teams injury report...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It was clear that the Green Bay Packers did not want to think about last season's divisional-round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. With the two teams matching up Sunday afternoon for the first time since the 49ers won 45-31 to end Green Bay's 2012 season, the Packers are acting like that game was a lifetime ago and are trying to avoid adding any...
Aaron Rodgers isn't out for revenge in Green Bay's season opener. Sure, the 49ers bounced the Packers from the NFC playoffs with a 45-31 win in January, but the former MVP quarterback — who grew up a Niners fan in Northern California — says he and his teammates are simply focused on the task at hand.
With the Packers’ backup quarterback situation more unsettled than the Jets’ starting quarterback situation it’s been easy to forget that Green Bay receiver Jordy Nelson has knee surgery in early August and missed the balance of training camp.
He returned to practice last Monday and a league source tells PFT that Nelson will be available to play in Week One at San Francisco...
Campbell's Chunk Soup, the NFL's official Soup Sponsor, is back with another iteration of their "Mama's Boy" campaign. This year, the soup ads will not only feature Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews but three new sports-pub inspired soups; Hearty Cheeseburger, Spicy Chicken Quesadilla and Philly-Style Cheesesteak. The Mama's Boy campaign, which...
