Brent Grimes was arguably the best player at the Miami Dolphins offseason training activities and showed "no ill effects" from his torn Achilles' tendon. A fierce competitor, the 5’10, 183 pound cornerback went blow for blow with Mike Wallace and held his own against the speedy receiver. His performance made the team feel more confident about their secondary than in previous years. His playmaking ability and coverage skills gives the team a solid replacement for the departed Sean Smith. Despite his size, Grimes says he plays big and competes: "I don't really look at corner as a big position for the most part," Grimes said, via Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinal. "Most corners are about 5-11 … I mean, I'm not 5-6. I'm short but this is just what I do. I make plays, I compete. That makes up for it." On coming back from his Achilles injury: "The toughest part was the beginning when I had to just sit around and let it heal up with my foot up. But once I started moving around and being able to work [it got better]." Grimes said. "That's all I'm trying to do, build my strength every day, let it get stronger. Get the conditioning. It is a long process but I've been lucky enough for it to be a good process." "He has got very, very good instincts, and he is very competitive," coach Joe Philbin said. "If you study him over the course of his career those are the things that you can see on tape. Obviously we would like for him to get his hands on the football and disrupt the passing game, tip it, strip it, intercept it."
