New York Jets
San Diego Chargers
The San Diego Chargers (6-9) beat the New York Jets (6-9) 27-17, yesterday at MetLife Stadium from East Rutherford, NJ.
The last home game of the season ends badly for the Jets as their starting third stringer QB Greg McElroy got sacked eleven times.
Greg McElroy saw pressure all day long from the Chargers pass rush who just made the Jets offensive line look really bad than they should be.
Well, this was the last home game likely for both Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and OC Tony Sparano who both of these men will be fired once the season ends next week.
Also Tim Tebow played his last home game as a member of the Jets, even though he didn't play at all when he asked Rex Ryan not play him because he wasn't named the starting QB.
They have one game to go in the season and will see if the Jets can finish on a high note.
Greg McElory made his first career NFL start by going 14 for 24 with with 185 passing yards, threw one INT, fumbled, got sacked 11 times and had 4 carries for 25 rushing yards.
Jeremy Kerley made his first pass of his NFL career in a wild cat play where he threw a 42 yards pass to Clyde Gates.
Shonn Greene scored two rushing touchdown's while he had 14 carries for 38 rushing yards and caught 2 passes for 42 yards.
Bilal Powell caught 4 passes for 47 yards and he had 3 carries for -3 yards.
Clyde Gates could get a tryout for the Jets next season as he caught 3 passes for 65 yards.
Braylon Edwards will likely play his last game as a Jet next week or who knows. He caught 3 passes for 36 yards.
Chaz Schilens caught 2 passes for 31 yards.
Hayden Smith caught his first career NFL pass for 18 yards.
Nick Folk made a 40 yard field goal.
Muhammed Wilkerson had one sack and 5 tackles.
Bart Scott had one sack and 5 tackles.
Quinton Coples had 1.5 sacks and 3 tackles.
Garrett McIntyre had a .5 sack and 5 tackles.
The Jets offense had 18 first downs, 225 total yards, went 2 for 11 on 3rd down conversions, commited two turnovers, allowed 11 sacks and scored 17 points.
The Jets defense held the Chargers to 15 first downs, 223 total yards, allowed them to convert 2 for 11 on 3rd down conversions and scored 27 points.
One game to go in the season for the rest of the NFL including the Jets who want to win next week so they can finish on a high note.
Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy new year as well.
Week 17 (Dec 30th) - The New York Jets (6-9) will play the Buffalo Bills (5-10) this coming Sunday afternoon in Ralph Wilson Stadium at 1:00 pm on CBS (TV) and WEPN (Radio).
BEST OF MAXIM
Jets quarterback Greg McElroy spent as much time on the ground as he did upright Sunday against the Chargers. New York's offensive line allowed a season-worst 11 sacks in the 27-17 loss.Fantasy Spin:McElroy may have been a slight improvement over Mark Sanchez but he certainly wasn't great on Sunday (14-for-24, 185 yards and an interception). Luckily he has a pretty favorable...
New York Jets quarterback Greg McElroy was listed on the injury report with an abdominal injury on Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported, but, for the moment at least, he is still scheduled to make his second straight start on Sunday against Buffalo. McElroy was scheduled to fully participate in Wednesday's practice, but his injury may cause coach Rex Ryan to have three...
Rex Ryan might regret his decision of having Greg McElroy start. He didn’t play very well, and this attempt at a tackle was pretty much a microcosm of the game for the New York Jets. Might be time to clean house and start over for the Jets Organization.GIF via: Gifulmination.com
Jets "ridiculous" offensive line play gives team their ninth loss. Florham Park, N.J.: Quarterback Greg McElroy couldn't overcome poor offensive line play in his first career start in the NFL. The Jets offensive line gave up 11 (one shy of the NFL record) sacks in the 27-17 loss against the San Diego Chargers."It was great on their part, but ridiculous on our...
If it wasn’t bad enough for Tim Tebow who was overlooked by Rex Ryan for Greg McElroy, he also had to watch Jeremy Kerley play wildcat for the New York Jets.
Tebow, who is fully healty, had to watch as Kerley played in the Wildcat, took a direct snap and threw a 42-yard completion to Clyde Gates to set up the Jets’ first touchdown. With that one pass, Kerley eclipsed Tebow’s...
Week 16 in the AFC West was a good one as Denver tried to hold on to their second seed placement in the playoffs, while San Diego defense welcomed the Jets' Greg McElroy to the NFL.And Oakland tried to find the end zone as Kansas City tried to stop Indianapolis from clinching a spot in the playoffs. This article will recap all the action from Week 16 in the West.Cleveland ...
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Norv Turner was in a generous mood, awarding game balls to each one of his San Diego Chargers who sacked Greg McElroy.
Hope he stocked up on footballs.
Led by Kendall Reyes' 3 12 sacks, the Chargers made things downright miserable for McElroy, taking him down 11 times and tying the team record while ruining the New York Jets quarterback's first...
One after another, the San Diego Chargers barreled into Greg McElroy and slammed him to the turf.
A whopping 11 times.
That's a lot of bruises for the New York Jets' new - and sore - starting quarterback.
Led by Kendall Reyes' 3 1/2 sacks, the Chargers made things downright miserable for McElroy, tying the team record for sacks in a 27-17 victory Sunday.
Was Sunday the official start of the Greg McElroy era in New York? Chances are the New York Jets will pursue another option at starting quarterback when the offseason begins, which means there is also a good chance Mark Sanchez may have taken his last snap with the team. Otherwise, it would probably cost you more than $10 for his Jets jersey.
As you can see from the photo above...
Much has been made about the Jets’ quarterback carousel over the past few weeks, but no amount of change under center will matter unless something changes along that offensive line.
Rex Ryan finally made the move away from Mark Sanchez last week, after a five-turnover debacle all but ended his stay in New York. The Jets decided to instead go with second-year quarterback Greg McElroy...
BY NICK ST. DENISThe New York Jets' drama play has come full circle, with quarterback Mark Sanchez getting benched for Greg McElroy following a five-turnover performance against the lowly Tennessee Titans that saw Gang Green get eliminated from playoff contention. The sensationalistic media has gotten everything they can out of a team that just wasn't very good to begin with...
It seems this guy might’ve had a skunked beer and an undercooked brat before Sunday’s Jets-Chargers game. Listen closely – one of the play-by-play crew members mentions it’s just the first quarter when Artie starts blowing projectile puke.
It’s not like Artie would be puking over the Jets play in the first.
The Jets had a 14-7 lead and even went to half at 14-10 over the...
San Diego Chargers (5-9) at New York Jets (6-8)
Ugh. How am I supposed to pick between these two teams? The Chargers have been incredibly inconsistent and the Jets are a mediocre at best team who has just been eliminated from the playoff race making a controversial move to start a former 7th round pick who has never made an NFL start. There’s a lot of conflicting stuff on both...
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Two teams mired in two forgettable seasons played a rather forgettable game as the San Diego Chargers beat the New York Jets 27-17 on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. For the Chargers (6-9), it was just their second win in their last seven games in a season that they started 3-1. A solid display by San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers, who was 11 for...
